Roy Webster, for whom Woo ten worked in the cherry har vest, said today Potter wrote asking for a contest with Woo ten picking apples, pouches, po tatoes or shearing sheep. Wooten, who left for Cali fornia a few days ago, agreed to return here this full for the apple and pear harvest, Web ster said. Since he has had a standing challenge to anyone on picking any kind of fruit, Web ster said ha believed the con test could be arranged without difficulty. M. Chrlstenson, district conserva tionist of the soil conservation service. This survey will record, on aerial photographs, the various soil types and. in addition, will Indicate the. slope, extent of ero sion and present land use. The information obtained from tills survey will be used In assisting farmers in solving their drain age problems, in determining the feasibility and extent of land leveling, and in planning the best long-time use of their land. Supervisors of the district, at a recent meeting, adopted a pro gram which outlines their long time objectives. Since many of the problems are associated with soil types and drainage, the soil survey was given first priority. Additional technical assistance will be made available to the district by the soil conservation service upon completion of the present survey which will pro vide much of the basic Informa tion required in carrying out the district program. The Poe valley soil conserva tion district is managed by a five-man board of supervisors with Wilbur Rolling, chairman; A. W. Schaupp, secretary-treasurer: and Rex E. High, George E. Stevenson and V, C. Brown. S. 6th Plans Flag Sockets The South 6th Street Improve ment Association is asking Boy Scouts to visit all business estab lishments on South 6th to can vas opinions of buslnes men on olacing metal flagpole sockets in the concrete sidewalks, to be poured as part of the street im provement program. The sockets will, be furnished at cost at an outlay of SO cents each and will he delivered the improvement association. In event someone is missed, a tele phone call to George Conner at the Conner Service company will get results. Conner Is public rela tions man for the association. The sockets will also be avail able at the Swan Lake Moulding company. The time factor Is exacting, Conner stated Tuesday. The con tractor has agreed to place the sockets if they are ready at the time the concrete is poured. This Is one of a number of projects that the improvement association is working on for the betterment of the south suburban area. The association, organized In June, is distributing this week copies of by-laws, and an execu tive committee representative of the various business groups will be set up.
