Janitor Found
Dead At Home
Rclnlmrdt Rcleraen, 62, Jani
tor at the naval air station was
found dead in nil apartment at
716 N. 9th by city police last
night. Officials raid that his
death was due to natural causes
and that he had been dead
about 24 hours when found
Police went to the apartment
on request of Arthur H.-rman
Johnson, 308 Greer building,
who said that he had been to
Reierscn's apartment Tuesday
night and twice earlier last
night and had been unable to
raise him.
Mrs. C. L. Herbert, who lives
at the same address as Reiersen,
said that she had not seen the
man for two days. The screen
door to the apartment was
lHtched and the front door
slightly open. Police removed
the screen and found Reiersen
sitting in a chair, dressed in pa
jamas. Dr. George H. Adler. county
coroner, was called and pro
nounced him dead.
Reiersen's body was taken to
Ward's Funeral home, where it
was said that he had no known
relatives. He was born in Nor
way and had been in Klamath
Kails for 18 years. His wife
died here 12 years ago.
In the man's pocketbook po
lice found $24 in currency, and
fourteen $25 war bonds were lo
cated in his Bible. The bonds
were made out jointly to Reier
sen and Fern McTaggert, 411 N.
3rd. and there was also a note
stating that she was to be noti
fied if anything happened to
him.
Road Accident Fatal
To McMinnville Man
PORTLAND, July 25 iPi
George Ewing. 17, McMinnville,
died late yesterday of injuries
suffered in a Monday collision
on the Lafayette-Carlton road.
Two others injured in the ac
cident were taken to a McMuuv
ville hospital.
Navy Housing Survey
On Near Mort Basin
ASTORIA, July 25 MP Sur
vey of three sites under consid
eration for a S4.300.000 navy
housing project near Mott basin
is under way.
Construction on the 375-unit
project is to start as soon as the
site is selected, probably in
about 30 days.

Visits Klamath
Merle Nash, Eugene, stale
president of the Junior chamber
of commerce, arrived in Klamath
Falls Thursday to confer with
members of the local Juycers re
garding activities of the 1U4H-47
fiscal year. Nash, who was elect
ed at the atiile convention held
in Klamath Falls last May, has
been visiting clubs throughout
the stale to coordinate statu and
national projects.
President Hay Ward has is
sued a call for a special business
meeting to be held in the cham
ber of commerce Thursday at
7:30 p. in. to confer with Nash.
He is expected to offer consid
erable help to the local group
concerning promotion of the
forthcoming Centennial celebra
tion as he has been active with
the group promoting the tiiM'.ic
pageant during tile past years.
The Jayeee paper drive pick
up is scheduled for Sunday, July
28, and residents are requested to
place their bundles of scrap
paper on the street corners Saturday.

'Newsie' Gets Fan Letter
From Admirer In Arizona
Many a romance got its start
this- way.
If young Jerry Johnson wasn't
too keen on having his picture
in the paper he certainly should
be now. Jerry, a 12-year-old
newsboy, is the lad whose pic
ture appeared in The Herald
and News feature, "Today's
Ncwsie," on Tuesday, July 9.
Not long after his picture was
published Jerry received a let
ter from a girl his age in Flor
ence. Ariz. She had seen his
picture in the paper and asked,
'mid descriptions of the scenic
attractions of her state, if Jerry
would care to write to her.

of the letter. Jerry said, blush
ing but nodding enthusiastical
ly, "pretty nice," and promised
faithfully to show the picture
off when he gets it.
Dodge Sedan Stolen
From Used Car Lot
A black 1935 Dodge sedan
was reported to city police as
stolen some time lust night
from the John Selby used car
tot at 7th and Uak. probably
during or immediately after the
light shower, and tracks showed
that the car had been driven off
south on 7th.
Selby told police that the car
had a push-pull type ignition
switch and half a tank of gaso
line.
Secretary Anderson
Predicts More Sugar
WASHINGTON. July 25 -F
Secretary of Agriculture Ander
son told President Truman to
day there'll be more sugar on
grocers' shelves early next year
as a result of the sugar contract
he negotiated with Cuba.
Just back from Havana. An
derson went to the White House ;
to report on the deal for pur- '
chase of the 1946 and 1947
Cuba crops.
In talking to reporters later,
he would not forecast how
much longer he thought sugar
rationing would be necessary.
1 Killed As Germans
And Jews Stage Riot
FRANKFURT. Germany, July
25 P) One Jew was killed and
at least six persons were injured
last night in fighting between
Jewish displaced persons and
German police near Munich, the
U. S. third army announced to
night. American troops were
called to restore order.
