Four Scout Troops Now At Makualla Four troops, making a total of 84 Scouli, are at Camp Maku alla at Crescent lake this week, according to Harold Talley. as aistant Scout executive. Troops 8, 14, 19 and 44 left camp last week after holding a water car nival, two hikes, a boat and canoe trip across the lake, and participating in several other ac tivities. Troop 19 won the water car nival. Talley stated that last week nine boys out of 30 non swimmers became beginners and one became a swimmer through the Scout training swim program. Twenty-five beginners advanced to the rank of swim mer and two swimmers earned the swimmer merit badge. Be ginners are required to .swim 100 feet, swimmers are required to swim 100 yards. Last week, troops set up a swim area on Crescent lake. Demonstrations of life-saving techniques that can be used safely with moderate swimmers and non-swimmers were pre sented.
