i s : f 5! I J: State OPA Gets Ready For Revival In the event that price control Is reinstated, ii the local OPA office all "set to go"? This Is the principal question asked by trade circles of Oregon OPA of ficials at the moment. The answer, according to Oregon District Director McDan null Brown, in that the local of fice is exerting every effort to expedite all current work and have a "clean slate" if the new OPA bill is passed. "We are getting an increased volume of calls as to prospects for price control renewal," Brown said, "inquirers wanting to know if we are 'all set to go in the event that price controls ere put back on." He said this is further evidence of trade inter est in future price problems. The queries were noted par ticularly from the building ma terials and consumer durable goods trade, he said. Further reports from the pub lic and the trade indicate that restaurants generally are rais ing their prices, Pat Wright, restaurant price specialist, said Thursday, with many establish ments which did not raise prices during the past two weeks, starting to do so now. Miss Wright said that prices for fresh crab and shrimp at re tail have gone up since June SO. They had formerly been decon trolled. Crab prices have ad vanced from $1.50 a pound at the end of June to $1.90 now, and shrimp from $1.50 to $2 a pound, indicating that prices of some previously decontrolled items are rising along with prices on some items formerly under price control. If the 3 cent wholesale in crease in butter prices were adopted generally at retail, it would result in a price of 84 cents in group 1 stores if the usual mark-up were taken, OPA price specialist pointed out. The percentage would only be slight ly less in the lower-priced stores. , Mocabee Flys New Piper Cub Allan Mocabee, owner of the Oregon Aircraft Service, re turned last Thursday with a new Piper demonstration ship, which, he flew out from Lockhaven, Pa. Coming the southern route through Amarillo, Mocabee flew the trip in 26 hours, 25 minutes in a Cub Super Cruiser PA-12. The ship, a three-place job, is powered with a 100-horsepower engine and cruised at about 105 miles per hour. The ship, according to Moca bee, is one of the most comfort able of the light personal planes now on the market, featuring air-filled leather seats, a wide, roomy cabin space and complete soundproofing. The pilot's seat is forward and a single seat, and there is a side-by-side seat in the rear for two passengers, offering full visibility while flying. Although in the larger ship class, the new cub has a landing speed of only 38 to 40 miles per hour. Radio is optional, although Piper plans call for building later models with two-way radios as standard equipment. The ship will be at the newly acquired municipal hangar for demonstration from now on, ac cording to Mocabee, and those interested in riding in the new ship may contact him there. On The Beat After a lifetime of globe trotting, James H. Wilson has decided to call Klamath Falls home. "Wilson is assistant to the city engineer. He has worked at the city hall since April of this year. Wilson was with the bureau of reclamation for 18 years and when war broke out was transferred to the army en gineers, where he served for two years. The last year of the war, he spent as a civilian em ploye of the navy. Wilson, his wife, and seven-year-old daugh ter, Patricia Marie, make their home at 329 McKinley. Little Patricia Marie is something of a traveler too, and by the time she was 1 1 months old had been in 11 different states and Can ada. The Wilsons have been in Klamath Falls since 1943 and like it so well they plan to stay. Wilson is on Edna Killmeyer's city hall beat. Coast Guard League Elects Portland Man PORTLAND, Ore.. Smith of 1911 Oregon today filed notice of his intention to run for the position of city councilman from ward five. The ward five place will be on the November ballot and E. F. Wall of 1010 Hanks, has filed for the same post. Rollin Can trail, present councilman from that ward, says he will not run this fall.- Council terms from wards two and three will also expire Jan uary 1. Now serving in those positions are Charles Van Dorcn and Harvey Martin. Van Dorcn is completing the term of the late J. J. Keller. The office of police judge will expire this year, but it is not known whether Harold Franey, pres ent judge, will run for re-election. No definite statement has come from Martin or Van Dorcn. Nominations and petitions for city offices must be filed with the police judge before August 24. Board representatives , said that 10 pounds have already been allotted, and were made obtainable on Spare Stamps 9 ' and 10, each good for five pounds.
