Premature Bomb Blast Upsets Bikini ABOARD USS MT. McKlN t,EY, July 19 (Ft A large mag nesium flash bomb used to syn chronize cameras went off 15mln iites prematurely today during a rehearsal for the underwater itomlc bomb test, but Vice Adm. W. H. P. Blandy quickly gave insurances Oie same thing could not happen with the real atomic ixplosive. The flash startled the Cross roads task force but caused no damage or casualties. ' Admiral Blandy said the exact cause of the premature detona tion was not yet determined but that the 100-pound flash bomb was set off entirely differently than the atomic bomb, and the public should have no fear of danger to personnel participating in next Wednesday's blast. "The atomic bomb positively will not fire prematurely," he declared. The magnesium bomb was mounted on a ship far removed from the vessel which set it off.
