The OHkland Oaks learned this during last week's series with Seattle, which they won. six games to two. The San Fran cisco Seals swept along at a 1.000 clip, taking their series With San Diego 7-0 and recap luring from Oakland the league leadership which they had re linquished in May. The Seals clung to their pre carious one-half same lead today by virtue of a double win over the Padres Sunday, while the Oaks took a doubleheader with Seattle, 7 to 2 and 3 to 2. Seals Stop PadrM Lefty Larry Jansen rang up his 18lh victory of the season as the Seals stopped San Diego 5-2 in the first game. Vince Di Maggio suffered a spike cut near his right knee while sliding into second in that contest and will be shelved for at least a weeK from his centerfield spot with the Seals. In the second game, San Francisco drove Carl Dumler off the mound in the first inning before he had retired a single man, and won 5 to 1. Oakland took advantage of three Seattle errors and cut off Seattle threats with four double plays in winning the first game. Charley Metro, recently acquired by the Rainiers from Oakland, scored both Seattle markers in the opener. In the second game he slammed a two-run homer over the left field fence. Eleventh Win With the Oaks trailing 1-2 in the second game. Max Marshall hit a three-bagger to score two men and clinch Oakland's elev enth win in 15 starts in the north. At Los Angeles, the Angels and Hollywood split their double bill. Hollywood won the first game 4 to 1 and the Angels the nightcap, 2 to 1. despite a two hit pitching performance by Manny Perez. Sacramento and Portland battled it out for 11 innings be fore their 7-7 first game stale mate was called on account of rain. A shower halted play in the first of the twelfth inning and officials finally called the game and set back the official scoring to the finished eleventh inning. Snapp in the lightheavy main bout, while Barkley sit this one out. Klamath Slugs Shasta, 16-4 Taking up the cudgel in no delicate manner, the Klamath Sons yesterday afternoon bashed three Mt. Shasta pitchers for 21 base blows, good for 16 runs and their ninth Northern Cali fornia league win. The final score was Klamath 16, Mt. Shasta 4. For three and a-half innings it was a very good, closely played ball game, marked by two home runs by Shasta hit ters off Klamath Pitcher Fran nie Miller, but then the lid blew off. The Sons counted one run in the first on Earl Brooks' open ing single and Miller's double. In the top of the third the Mountaineers went ahead when Steve Risberg walked and came across ahead of Mel Barney when Barney slapped an inside-thc-park homerun far out into center field. In the Klamath portion of the third Miller singled, was forced at second by Hi Hatfield, who took second on a pitch and scored on Ernie Bishop's single to right. Bart Golbar's single sent Bishop to third, and he came home on Dale Graham's one base blow into center. That made the score 3-2 for Klamath, and in the top of the fourth Pete Manos, Shasta first baseman, slammed for the dis tance over the left field wall, knotting the score. Dick Barron, righthander, took over then and got Graham out on a fly to retire the side. Barron was touched for one hit, a triple by Brooks, in the seventh, but had no trouble after that. Frannie Miller pitched seven full innings for the Sons, giv ing up seven hits and four runs, while striking out six. Clyde Carlstrom hurled the last two stanzas and was nicked for one hit and whiffed five. Earl Brooks, Klamath third baseman and leadoff man, had five hits in six tries, including two triples. Hatfield got a triple and a double, BishoD a triple and two singles. Dale Graham two doubles and two singles. Bart Goldbar a double and three singles. Del Moro Cops Flag Del Moro emerged victors of the junior American Legion base ball circuit yesterday by defeat ing for the second time both Conger and Mills in a double header Dlaved on Del Moro field. j Beginning with Mills, Del Moro batsmen edged out a 3 to 2 win I in seven innings. Mills led in the fourth inning, 1 2-1. Stone, pitching for Del I Moro, gave up seven hits and ' three walks, while Mills' pitcher. ' Elliott, dropped three hits and ! two walks to Del Moro. Elliott ! tossed nine men out. and Stone put five away on strikes. No homers or tnree oase nits were made during tie game. Mills made one error, Del Moro chalked up two. In the second half of the doubleheader, Conger came close to upsetting the Del Morians' perfect record. Stretching to 10 innings, Conger managed to hold the game up at a tic in the sev enth, although did not lead the scoring any of the time. Elliott hit a three-bagger, and Metz, also of Del Moro, and Whitt, Conger, each had doubles. Williams and Edwards were batteries for Del Moro, while Whitt and Ccssnun worked out for Conger. Williams gave up four hits and three walks against 16 strikeouts, and Whitt dropped six hits and three walks with 17 strikeouts. Each team made two errors. Joyce Betters Swim Records SAN FRANCISCO, July 15 UP) Three American swimming rec ords were bettered yesterday by Joyce MacRae, formerly of Port land, Ore., in the closing events of the two-day Pacific associa tion swim meet here. Swimming for the national championship crystal plunge team of San Francisco. Miss Mac Rae set a new American 100 yard breast stroke record of 1:15.1, clipping 2.4 seconds from the mark set by Jan Dillard of Texas.
