TULELAKE, June 19 A
water softening plant at a cost
' " of $15,000 will be installed at
; Tulelake in the near future.
Plans for the plant construc
'" tion were discussed at a meet
ing of the city council Monday.
- ' 'The plant will include filtration,
aeration, and softening, and will
' be incorporated into the present
water system. The present well
is slightly over 2000 feet deep.
-, The aeration section will be
- located on top of a steel tank of
25.000 gallon capacity.
Construction will be started
f!in about 30 days with bids open
i, ,ing on July 1. Half of the cost
i i will be from city funds and the
" 'other half from the state.
J The present water contains 15
a grains of hardness which will be
remedied in the new plant, and
sulphur gas will be removed in
" aeration. Free iron which is
present, will be removed by
'filtration.

through the efforts of Sheriff
Lloyd Low, who is a member of
the" Salvation Army board.
"After 1 got this idea. I got
cooperation in a hurry," said
Sheriff Low. "Everybody was
willing to pitch in. The Salva
tion Army building needs a
paint job, and its going to get
it."

More Clothes Money
Policemen will receive an ad
ditional $8 a month clothing al
lowance with the $10 a month
pay raise already approved for
the department Mayor Ed Os
tendorf said today. The budget
committee, meeting yesterday,
recommended the payment for
clothing.
In the past policemen have
paid for their own uniforms.
This allotment and the raise
now makes the base pay for pa
trolmen $213 a month.
