MIDLMD ERE m Midland Fred Milani ha returned home from Hillside hospital where he has been ill for a week. He will be confined to his bed for several days, however. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ayers spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cascbeer in California. John W. Mistier and family and Edward Burke and family of Tulclake spent Tuesday evening In Midland visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Mistier and family. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Hathorne and daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Farrell and Earl R. (Buddy) Hathorne from Leav enworth, Kansas, spent Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs. Ha thornc's brother, John Mistier, and family. They were accompanying Far rell to North Island from where he expects to sail May 18. after a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Farrell, in Long Beach, Calif. Farrell is an instructor with the navy air corps. The Midland Victory club met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. John Mistier, with 10 members present. Red Cross sewing was done and plans were made to find ad dresses of needy persons in the famine countries and each mem ber to adopt one family to whom food will be sent or other needs. Mrs. Leon Andrieu was select ed as playing the most interest ing and entertaining game. After which lunch was served by the hostess, which consisted of a huge apple pan dowdy and whipped cream. Those present were Mrs. Blanche Flowers and daughter Dona, Mrs. Minnie Andrieu and sons, Mrs. Marie Andrieu, Mrs. Gladys Buhrig and daughters, Mrs. Thelma Houck and son Ice land, Mrs. Phillis Bolhman, Mrs. .THIS vtkVO OIW Oft ! Mervyn Wilde, William Raj nus and James Ottoman enjoyed the past week fishing at Wicki up dam. They reported catching their limit. Mrs. Robert Kennan and two children, Robert and Jean, from Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii, were visiting friends in Malin last week. They are en route to Pasadena, Calif., where they will visit Herman's parents and from there expect to return to Hawaii. Mrs. Kennan formerly taught in the Malin high school and will be remembered by her many friends as Violet Judy. Malin was well represented last week at the Klamath Coun ty Public Health association dinner at the Willard hotel with Mrs. Teresa McComb. Mrs. Hal bert Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Ted A. De Merritt, Mr. and Mrs. Vada Schmeck, Mrs. Lois Noel and daughter Doty. Mrs. B. M. Mistier, Airs. Louise Milani. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Fred Milani in June. Clarence Cascbeer arrived in Midland Friday morning after his release from the merchant marine. Mr. and Mrs. John W. Mistier and son Jackie and Mrs. Edward Burke and sons Eddie and Gary had dinner with their parents Thursday evening, Mr. and Mrs. John Mistier and Ralph in Mid land. Mistier and Burke are em ployed at the relocation center formerly Newell, Calif. Ronald Kinkade is on leave from boot training at San Diego. He expects to sail Tuesday. Mrs. Saunders left several weeks ago for Kansas upon receiving word of her father's death. She ex pects to return to Malin with her family. Mr. and Mrs. George Spolek are having extensive remodel ing done on their home in Ma lin. Mayor A. Kalina has pro claimed May 25 as Poppy Day. The sale of poppies is sponsored by the American Legion auxil iary with Mrs. George Brothan ek as chairman. She will be as sisted by Mrs. Elzie Roberts, Mrs. Bonnie Stevens. Mrs. John McCulley, Mrs. John Frietag, Mrs. Vaclav Kalina, Mrs. Merle Loosley and Mrs. A. E. Street. The American Legion auxil iary of Malin is sponsoring a trip to Girls' State at Silver Creek Falls, Ore., to be held from June 9 to 16. Mrs. Elzie Roberts, chairman, announced this week that the two girls chosen from Malin high school are Shirley Kay Johnson and Emily Elzner. These girls were chosen for their outstanding scholastic record and worthy citizenship. Girls' State was or ganized in 1940. but this is the first year the Malin auxiliary will send representatives. Con Johnson, who has had his garage closed for some time while the building was being moved from the chosen Malin community park site, is again open for business in his new location. Johnson's garage is one of the most up-to-date places of business of its kind. Grady Saunders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Saunders, has been ill for the past week. Mrs. S. G. Murphy from Bend, and Mrs. C. F. New Pine Creek The East Side grunge members as a whole have accepted an in vitation to attend the west Side grange meeting and social hour this Saturday evening. Many are planning on going over to enjoy the generous hospitality of our neighbors across the lake. The East Side grange orchestra is playing for the firemen's ball at Ccdarville this Saturday eve ning, so its members will not be able to enjoy the festivities on tne west Side. Mike Conner and Budge Mul home of Mr. Wilde. and Mrs. Mervyn BUSINESS m a I .11 I TO key. who have for the past six months been owners of the Sham rock bar and cafe, made a spec tacular sale of their fixtures and stock to three men from Dommiu last week. Robert Colahan, Alvin Hcffron and Joe Horsley are the new owners and plan to operate the establishment very much on the same lines as their prede cessors have in the past. Possibly they may add to the building for more room if business war rants. Conner and Mulkey were in no wise anxious to sell but when their reluctant but lucrative prico wus immediately met with a down payment, they had sold out. Conner, who was mnniiging the business, has no definite plans for the future but he knows one thing for sure and that is he is going to catch up on his fishing. The new owners took over last Friday. Ruben Anderson, who is chef, operating the cafe end of the business, will continue on as before. Jimmie Jay, bartender, will also continue under the cm ploy of the new owners, accord ing to information received. Babe Blurton hus his new service station now in operation although all phases of his plant have not as yet been completed. The painters are expected next week to give the place a shiny new coat of paint and he is ex pecting his hydraulic grease lift any day now. Babe is also oper ating a one-chair barber shop in connection with his. service sta tion. ' Rev. Barrow is taking over the duties of cubmaster of the local troop. The pac meeting will be May 23. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barry re turned last weekend from their trip to Reno and various points in Nevada and California. Since returning they have been look ing for a new home and may locate here.
