Violent Death Claims 7 In Series Of Accidents . By Tht Attoclated Preit Three auto collision! late yes terday took the lives of five Orcgonians three of them Gas ton high school students and an accidental poisoning and a lum ber mill mishap claimed a toll of two others. Ten persons were critically injured in the fatal highway ac cidents outside Portland. A total of 13 injured motorists and one pedestrian were involved in wrecks of 15 vehicles in a few hours late yesterday in that city. In the worst of the accidents, three Gaston high school stu dents were killed almost instant ly and three others seriously hurt when the auto they were riding to a baseball game struck a lumber truck near Newberg on the Ncwbcrg-Wapato high way. The victims were Ralph El lingsworth, 17: Mary King, 17. and Charles Turner. 18. The injured: Ralph Hatfield, 15; Don ald McMahon, 14, and Carl Hcring, 17. The boys were all members of the Gaston high baseball squad. State police reported I that heavy dust, spun up by an I other car, apparently obscured I vision and caused the car to sideswipe the oncoming truck. It was not immediately deter mined which youth was driving. The truck was driven by Fred Ortman, Forest Grove, police said. The impact sheared off the top of the car at the hood. In other accidents Donald James Burris. 36, Portland, was killed when his car and a truck crashed east of Cherryville on the loop highway. Adolph Val entine Swanson, 66, was killed in the overturning of a car on the Garden Home road south west of Portland. At North Plains, the Bates Lumber company reported Clar ence Hatfield, 44, was crushed by a spinning log being hauled Into the mill. A widow and three children survive. The Multnomah county cor oner's office reported James E. Dickason, 84, died of poisoning after drinking "sheep dip" he had mistaken for another bever age. Postal inspovlors charged Durell had taken the money from malls here while he was employed during the Christmas season. Durell told the court he hid the money in a elgar bo and did not tell his wife of the fund. Durell Is the father of two children.
