! 1 Reds Claim U. S. Planes Attacked Manchu Forces Br HAROLD K. MILKS CHUNGKING. April 22 ) General Marshall formally de manded today that the Chinese communists either publicly re tract or furnish details of their unsupported charge that Ameri can planes attacked communist forces at Szepingkai, Manchuria, and that one was shot down. Marshall, special American envoy seeking to establish peace between the warring Chinese factions, held an inconclusive three-hour meeting with Gen. Chou En-lai, chief communist ne gotiator, and a separate session with Generalissimo Chiang Kai shek. Chou said he was radioing field commanders for informa tion on the reported air attacks, which allegedly occurred near embattled Szepingkai last week. Fabrication A Chinese government mili' tary spokesman labeled as a "complete fabrication" the charge that U. S. planes had strafed the communist forces. Reports from headquarters of the U. S. army, marine and navy air units based in China said no U. S. aircraft were in the Szepingkai area at the time of the reported attack. U. S. army headquarters here Indicated that it would have no formal statement on the com' munist accusation until an inves tigation was completed. How ever, a spokesman said an un armed liaison plane seized by the communists at Changchun last week was the only U. S. air craft in the area. The commun ists asserted that one of the planes was shot down and found to contain an American airman. Troops Gather Government reports from Manchuria said that Chinese communist troops are "gathered like clouds" in the Kungchulin district east of Changchun where the government's first army ap parently made slow progress in its effort to reach the fallen capi tal. Kungchulin is 38 miles from Changchun, captured by the communists last week. Lt. Gen. Chao Chia-hsiang, acting commander of govern ment armies in the northeast, was scheduled to fly from Muk den to the Changchun area today ...rwoiameusi HQ. Cox Shoe Service 3 O O O Phone UNION To The People of Klamath County On April 16th, Mr. Clarence Humble, in his radio talk, told Klamath County citizens that there has been no Juvenile officer since early last October. Shortly after Mr. Humble's radio talk. Judge Vanden berg appointed one. Evidently Mr. Humble spoke the truth or Judge Vandenberg would not have rushed in and made the appointment in less than 24 hours. Dave Bridge was the best juvenile officer Klamath Falls ever had. By insults, threats, and intimidation by the Judge, he became disgusted and resigned. Bridge saved many a wayward boy from going down the long road that leads to the penitentiary. Although Judge Vandenberg is the Juvenile court Judge of Klamath County, he does not like to handle Indian Juvenile cases, though it is his duty to do so. Juvenile conditions in Klamath county are the worst on the Pacific coast. Don't you think it is about time we had a change in our juvenile court? Do you know what has happened in the Juvenile court durino the oast five years? Are you satisfied with the numerous parols, pro bations, and dismissals of cases where grown men have violated girls, 16 years and younger? Are you satisfied with the way Judqe Vandenberg has handled some of his JUVENILE OFFICERS in the past? The Judge, in his radio talk, said he would not punish children if he could avoid it. Evidently, from his record, he does not believe in punishing those who punish and violate the girls. It is best that you inquire and find out what has been going on. No details were given.) Killing Halted At Meat Plant TILLAMOOK. April 22 P- Curtailing of killing at the Christensen Meat company plant here today has lowered the meat supply of most coast towns between Astoria and Coos Bay and areas inland as far as Salem, the company said today. C. H. Christensen reported the decision of the company to halt killing except for hogs and a few "low grade cows" result ed from a federal inspector's down grading of meat the com pany had purchased as choice grade beef. He said the com pany had purchased 55 head of cattle as choice and that the U. S. inspector graded all of the meat "commercial and good." The firm kills about 45 head a day, but Christensen said the inspector made it "impossible for us to stay in business" on normal production- Retail butcners from Seaside, Warrenton, Salem and other western Oregon cities depend ing on the company would be shut off from their regular sup ply, he said.
