Traffic Fatalities Increase In Oregon SALEM, April 22 lpOnly nine Oregon counties had fewer traffic fatalities in 1045 and in 1044, Secretary of Stole Robert S. Farrcll Jr., said today. They are Coos, Curry, Doug las, Grant, Hood River, Jeffer son, Josephine, Marion and Un ion counties. Of the 352 persons killed last year In Oregon traffic accidents. 235 were killed in rural areas. One-fourth of the rurul traffic fatalities were pedestrians. Alfalfa was cultivated by the Persians for centuries before the Christian era. Ranchers Busy In Poe Valley Spring ranching activities in Poe valley are progressing with branding, marking and vaccinat ing calves and moving cattle to summer pasture. Hay shipping to California Is about over for the season. Southern California has taken a Kood part of the hay grown in the valley due lo drought there, resulting In a shortage of feed lo a serious extent. Valley grow ers started shipping the first of February, diverting some of the hay to the San Francisco bay area. Jack Llskey took around 268 head of beef steer over to Swan lake to summer pasture from the Llskey ranch in Poe valley early Saturday and another 400 head of cattle were moved from the ranch to summer pature at Stronghold Sunday. Dan Llskey took advantage of opening trout season, trying his luck over on Spraguc river Sat urday. Dave and Jack Llskey, Guy and Mildred Barton, Ida Mue Brown and Viva Llskey de horned, marked, vaccinated and branded 32 calves on the Liskey ranch. Each year cattle are vac cinated against blackleg.
