Klamath Woman Elected To Office At the annual stale convention of Dolta Kappa Gamma, nat ional teachers honorary society, at Corvnllis April 13 and 14, Alpha chapter was honored by having Mrs. Geraldine Owsley chosen as the first vice president for the ensuing two years. Other officers elected were: Edith Boric of the Southern College of Edu cation, president; Mrs. Mary Heasslcr of La Grande, second vice president; Florence Allen, Ashland, corresponding secretary: Mrs. Charlino Edwards, Philomath, recording secretary; Helvie Silver, Silvcrton, parliamentarian; Mrs. Amies Booth, superintendent of Marion county schools, treasurer. The Saturday morning ses sion opened at the First Method ist church with Miss Hazel Fish wood, state president, conduct ing the business meeting. State officers, chapter presidents, and committee chairmen reported on the past year's activities. Beta was hostess to the seven other chapters of the state, with about 160 members of Alpha Rho State, being in attendance. At a delightful luncheon pre sided over by Emma Henkle of the Monmouth College of Edu cation, chapter presidents con ducted a birthday candle lighting ceremony. The guest speaker, Mrs. Ina Rae Hix, dean of girls at Corvallls high school, spoke oil her experience while in a Japanese prison camp in the Philippines. The afternoon session consist ed of an initiation, a memorial service, and social hour which were held at the Memorial Union on the college campus. The highlight of the conven tion was a formal banquet held at the Benton hotel Saturday evening 'at which time present and past state and chapter presi dents were honored. The tables ..were profusely decorated with spring flowers, camellias being provided each guest as corsages. Mrs. Genevieve Turnipseed. di rector of dormitories of the Uni versity of Oregon and an honor ary member of Delta Kappa Gamma, gave an inspiring ad dress on "The Teacher in the Atomic Age." The closing meeting was a breakfast Sunday morning held at the Benton hotel. A round table discussion on teacher re cruitment and program planning was conducted by Dr. Melissa Martin, president of Beta chap ter. The local publicity chairman, Mrs. Ida Edsall, received men tion for her outstanding con tributions' to the state publica tion, "The Oregon Trail." Members from Alpha chapter who attended the convention were: Olive Wilson, president, Maye Wells, Augusta Parker, Eva Burkhalter, Geraldine Ows ley, Mabel Humble, Stella Bowne, Josephine Penrod, Borg hild Mehlen, Dorothy Houston, and Grace Lytle. Ceremony . Patricia Inez Perry, daughter of Mrs. Inez Ralls of Seattle, became the bride at 8:30 o'clock Sunday evening of William Har old Downey, formerly of San Di ego. The groom is a veteran of World War 2, and served with the United States army air corps in England. The ceremony was read by the Rev. Victor Phillips of the First Methodist church at the home of the groom's sister, Mrs. Harley McCleery near Merrill. Mr. and Mrs. McCleery attended the young couple. The bride wore a powder blue bolero suit with a corsage of pink rosebuds and gardenias. She wore a shell pink blouse and a small flower hat. Refreshments followed the ceremony which was attended by Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Agee, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Craig, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Acklin, Carl Lee Mc Cleery, Mary Lou, Kathleen and Luanna Craig, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Chilton, Mr. and Mrs. George Hill, the Rev. and Mrs. Phillips and the bridal party. Mr. and Mrs. Downey will be at home on the ranch which the groom and his brother-in-law operate. Betrothal Of interest here is the recent announcement by Mr. and Mrs. George Baughman of Ashland of the engagement of their daugh ter, Edith, to LeRoy Real, son of Mrs4 Vera Real and the late Martin Real of 112 Wendling, Klamath Falls. The wedding date has been let for September 15, in Ashland. Miss Baughman was dis charged from the Waves in De cember, and served both in the United States and on Ford island at Pearl Harbor. Mr. Real saw service with the 104th Timberwolf division and was discharged in November. Leave Klamath Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tatlow of 401 Laguna, long-time residents of Klamath Falls, left this city today for Rogue River where tney will make their home. They have resided in Klamath Falls since 1912. The Tatlows plan to construct a home in Rogue River. Their only daugh ter, Ella, a former student of Klamath Union high school and Whitman college, is employed in Medford. Kennell-Ellis Shower Jeneece Shirey was honored with a miscellaneous - bridal shower on the evening of April 12 in the parlors of the First Baptist church. Refreshments were served bv the hostesses. Mrs. V. J. Griffith. Mrs. B. K. Robinson, Mrs. F. R. Nichol, Mrs. L. M. Higdon, Mrs. J. C. Orrell and Mrs. E. J. Boothby after which the guests were enter tained with a cleverly aranged mock radio Droeram. Mrs. Fred Nichol acted as mistress of cere monies for the evening. The program ended with Miss Shirey being selected as "Queen for a Day" at which time she was crowned and seated on an ornate queen's throne. Her gifts were then presented as her award. Godfrey Matthews of the Community Congregational church was guest speaker at a meeting of the Women's associa tion of the First Presbyterian church, Thursday afternoon, April 18. Rev. Matthews spoke on "Us ing the Bible." Reports were given on the meeting of the presbytery and the presbyterial held at Ashland by the delegates. Joanne Stacy presented a solo, accompanied by Mrs. George Mc Intyre. Mrs. David Barnett led the devotional. Hostesses were Mrs. Thomas A. Sandoe. Mrs. Melvin Fitzpat rick and Mrs. Claude Ferguson. The tea table, decorated with forsythia and daffodils, was pre sided over by Mrs. George Hurn and Mrs. L. D. Potter, Aux inary The Eagles auxiliary held a regular meeting Tuesday eve ning in the lower FOE hall, 9th and Walnut, with 54 members present. The hall was beautiful ly decorated for the Easter sea son. After the meeting delicious re freshments were served with colored Easter eggs. The next meeting will be held Tuesday at 8 p. m., when there will be initi ation of candidates. Music was provided by Mrs. David Barnett. The bride wore an afternoon dress of aqua with a white orchid corsage, and for jewelry chose an heirloom cameo necklace be longing to Mrs. Orville Herman, matron of honor, Mrs. Herman wore a lime green frock Willi a gardenia cor sage. Carol Herman, flower girl, was attired in pink, with a wreath of pink rosebuds in her hair. She carried a small colonial bouquet of mixed flowers. Best man was Don Miller, brother of the bridegroom. Present for the ceremony were relatives of the couple and a few close friends. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Herman, and came here from Lompoc, Calif., last January. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Miller and was recently dis charged from the marine corps. 9 Honored Mrs. J. D. There was nn excellent attendance and 300 members of tho order were present from all over Oregon. Tho next stato convention of Royal Neighbors will be held in Klnmnth Falls in 19.10.
