El ti Air Scouting Unit Planned '.' Ambitious plana are underway by the local Boy Scout council ior the formation of an Air Scout ing unit. ' Air Scouting li a new field in 'the Bov Scout program and will include background work for avi ation. Meteorology, aircraft atructure. theory of flight, de- iiign, aerodynamics, and all allied 'subjects will be offered. Actual 'flight instruction may be taken '.Individually by the members, in dependent of the Scout program. i Twenty-seven young men have 'signed up with the Boy Scout of fice, signifying their desire to Join If a troop is organized. ' Included in the new national ;' Air Scout program will be a 14 day trip to an army air base ' where the Scout will be able to avail themselves of the facilities iof the field, including actual flight if their parents consent, ' under the supervision of Scout officials. .' .. Requirements for joining the ; program if a troop is installed are an interest in aviation, that the young man be at least 15 ; years old, and that he pass a : strict physical examination. Veterans with military I communications experience who I can demonstrate ability to send and receive international Morse code at the rate of 30 words a ; minute and touch type at the ' rate of 35 words per minute are ' eligible for consideration for the ; position. ; - New personnel are ordinarily ' employed as assistant aircraft : communicators grade CAF-5 at an approximate salary of $3300 per annum. Woman Sentenced To 27-Month Jolt TACOMA, Wash., April 19 (-FI Pleading guilty to drawing al lotment checks as the common law wife of Bernard Zawickl, Portland, Ore., soldier, after mar. rying James S. Dickerson, in Tacoma, Grace Dickerson, 31. of Portland, was sentenced yester day to 27 months in an insti tution by Federal Judge Charles H. Leavy. Mrs. Dickerson admitted hav ing brushes with the law in the past. In 1939 she was tried for murder and acquitted in the death of John Reese in Ashford, Wash. Telegrapher Killed In 5-Floor Plunge WASHINGTON, April 19 (,V) Through the years, Parian M. Ir win, 5!l-.veui-old telegrapher on the night shift, formed a habit of operating the elevator himself when he knocked off work at tho Southern railroad building here. Usually tlie car wus left for him at the fifth floor. Last mid night Irwin, his telephone-operator wife and a messenger, all Southern employes, were leav ing together. Irwin opened tho door, stepped inside the dark ened shaft. The cur was nt the sixth floor. Irwin was pronounced dead at emergency hospital early this morning. Lamb Butchering Stoppage Averted SAN FRANCISCO, April 19 (iPl A spokesman for the AKL Butchers union said today that recognition of AFL Sheep Shear ers by sheepmen had averted a planned union stoppage of lamb butchering on Monday, Milton S. Maxwell, of the Butchers' union, said "nearly all of the sheep shearing contractors have signed up with AFL Sheep Shearers." The shearers, receiving 20 cents per animal, seek 221 cents in wage negotiations.
