Newspaper Page Textf Hoover Urged To Present Famine Picture To Yanks WASHINGTON, April 18 (VP) President Truman "suKRestod" to Herbert Hoover today that the former president return home to lay "forcibly and dramatically" before the American people the need for food in famine-stricken Europe. All contestants should be ready promptly at 10 a. m. to receive instructions. The style revue will take place at 1:30 p. m., Saturday afternoon at the exhibit building. Exhibits will be received at the fairgrounds, Friday until 12 noon. Those leaders on commit tees In charge of arranging ex hibits should be on hand Friday morning not later than 9 a. m. A garden club meeting was held April 14, at 2:30 p. m. at Edgar Hoffman's place. The fol lowing officers were elected: Louise Enman, president, Oma Hoffman, vice president. The name chosen for the club was "Feed the Hungry." The club pledge was given and the next meeting place decided upon. The meeting was adjourned. MERRILL The regular- meet ing of the Merrill Baby Beef club was held April 3, at the high school. The meeting was called to order by the president, Wesley Haskins. Nine members were present. The plan will permit farmers to obtain certificates for delivery of grain but receive pay for it at some later date at the price then in effect. In a telegram to N. W. Thatch er, president of the National Federation of Grain Coopera tives, St. Paul, Mr. Truman said: Backs Program "I want all farmers in the northwest and in the nation to know that their government is earnestly backing the program of sending wheat abroad to help those peoples who now are fac ing the dangers of mass famine. The wheat certificate plan, if widely accepted by farmers, can become a powerful instrument in getting wheat off the farms in to ships for export." British. Canadian and U. S. representatives on the combined food board met yesterday but failed to agree on what each country should do to provide more wheat and flour for relief feeding.
