Mrs. Faye Rutherford is here from Eugene for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Kelly. . ,u . Bill Skeen, who sent the win ter in Marshfield with his daughter, Mrs. Ted Savage, has returned home. Gail Ridcnour was rushed to Hillside hospital in Klamath Falls Thursday evening for an emergency appendectomy. He is reported to be recovering. Pat Ludwick is at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Ludwick. Miss Ludwick will finish her training course in nursing in May. Mr. and Mrs. Rollo Moore left Saturday for Lewiston, Ida., to visit Mrs. Moore's parents. En route they will stop in Boise to visit relatives. Mrs. Rosa Shadley, who has been in Chico for the winter, has returned to her home here. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shadley and family are in Sprague River. They moved from here three years ago to Vale. Recently they sold their property there and are now looking for a loca tion. They plan to remain in Sprague River until school closes. Mrs. Ethel Pankey attended the meeting in Klamath Falls Saturday for primary teachers. Mr. and Mrs. K. R. Newlun and Luella are in Van Nuys, Calif., this week to visit their son, Pvt. Buster Newlun, who is in a veterans' hospital receiv ing treatment. Mrs. Ruby Zebol is home from Portland. She had been there for some time receiving medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Noble Sander ville and Maria were here for a visit with Mrs. Bob Rogers and other relatives. Mrs. Clara Karges has re turned to Sprague River to make her home. She spent the winter in Sacramento. She bought the Rosecraus property and will move there soon. She plans to do complete remodel ing and modernizing on the property. W. F. Parks spent a few days in Medford recently. Leo Pugh from Klamath Falls visited for a short time Satur day with his sister, Mrs. Lendle Story and family. Mrs. Laura Barney, Charles and Bobby are visiting relatives in Reno this week. Poe Valley Donald Roberts sold his ranch to Mr. Hitchman this spring. Mr. and Mrs. George Reiling were shoppers in Klamath Falls from here Friday. Mrs. Reiling has recovered from the mumps. A grange meeting was held at the hall Wednesday with quite a few attending. Arbee and Warren Roberts and John Nork attended a movie in Klamath Falls Saturday night. George Berry was a caller here from Klamath Falls the first part of the week. Shop pers in Klamath Falls Tuesday included Mr. and Mrs. Losson Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Roberts and daughter, Mrs. Joe Nork and John. Mrs. Victor Nork and children. Zella High called at the Joe buiuvan home in Olene Tuesday. Leland Webber is ill with a sore throat and tonsilitis. Wilbur Reiling is bringing his dairy barn near completion. It is a ime one. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kcady sold their farm last week to J. H. Sullivan of Klamath Falls and have purchased the former Charles Latta farm from Mike Duran. Mr. and Mrs. w. v. w un latch and Mrs. Roy Whitlatch left for Eugene Tuesday, where they were called by the sudden death of Mrs. W. V. Whitlatch's brother Clayton Springer. Dorothy Dixon returned Sun day from a week's visit with Marcille Reynolds at Stanford university. Dorothy left Sun day afternoon for Eugene to resume her studies at the uni versity. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hayes spent the weekend with his aunt, Mrs. G. M. Rudolph at Project City, Calif. They also visited Rudolph who is critical ly ill in the hospital at Project City, Construction work b y the new resident on the Percy Dixon farm was started last week. Little Rav Jackson who suf fered an attack of pneumonia last week is reported improv ing. Gilbert Rudolph, who is in a navy pilot training school in Tennessee, visited relatives and friends here Saturday. Word has been received here of the critical illness of George M. (Rudy) Rudolph, a former resident of this community. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph sold their farm here in 1938. moving to Glendale, Ore., and later to California where Rudolph was employed in construction work. Rudolph suffered a paralytic stroke on March 31. while at the home of his sister, Mrs. Bertha Kock at Proiect Citv, near Shasta Dam, Calif. Friends may address the Rudolph fam ily at P.O. Box 892 Project City, Calif. Bonanza Mrs. Ruth Mullenox is now home after spending the winter in California. Mrs. Mareareta Fields and family have been visiting at the home of her mother Mrs. Mable Davison. Mrs. Daisy Cox and children. Jerry and Gloria went to Med ford where they visited with friends and relatives. Accom panying them were Mrs. Nora Cox, Mrs. Katie Bolds and Mrs. Maud Farrell. Lois and PhilliD Hunt have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bechdoldt. Mrs. Cora Leavitt entertained at her home recently. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frazier, Mrs. bmith and Mrs. Dearborn. Kelsey Ruland is now home from the navy. He has his- dis charge from that branch of the service. H. B. Cox was a business visitor in Lakeview. Sam Cox and Mrs. Nora Cox went home at that time, after a visit with the Cox family. Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Kruger charivaried the young couple. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Cox and children spent a day in Klam ath Falls at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Farrell. The oc casion being in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nelson and children. Graduation Set May 16 MALIN, April 10 Mary Jane Hornbeak will be valedictorian of the graduating class of the Malin high school at commence ment exercises Thursday eve ning May 16 in the Broadway hall. The salutatory address will be given by Leo Liobolt. Bacca laureate services will be in the Malin Presbyterian church Sun day evening, May 12, with the sermon to be given by Rev. Glenn Morton. May 17 is the official date for the end of the term and students of both the hieh school and the elementary school will receive report cards at noon on that date. Three gins and five boys are graduating from high school. Malin high school did not close last fall for the potato harvest vacation in which other schools of the county participated and students here will finish work two weeks earlier than Merrill. No plans are being made for a senior prom this year, it was announced this week by A. E. Street, principal, but the senior class will present a three-act comedy," Aaron Slick from Pun kin Creek," on Thursday eve ning, April 25 under the direc tion of Herbert Holmes, member of the faculty. The juniors will entertain the seniors at a banquet before the end of school and the high school band under the direction of Mr. Curry and the girls' chorus un der the direction of Mrs. Jean Blake will present a spring mu sic concert early next month. Langell Valley Mr. and Mrs. Clay Walker and Ernest were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burnett and family and Jim Womack Wednesday evening. Mrs. Frank Pepple and Bob of Klamath Falls were dinner guests at the Walter Smith and family home on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Frazier, Mrs. Mary Smith and L. A. Con stans were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Johnson on Thurs day to celebrate Harry's birth day. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Jones of Klamath Falls spent Sunday with their daughter and family, the Ray Marchants. Bud Harris spent a few days in San Francisco on a busi ness trip. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Foote, former Langell Valley and Hen ley residents, now of Redmond, are the parents of a daughter, Carol Anne, born April 1. Mrs. Buster Watkins is spend ing a few weeks in Los Angeles with relatives. Mrs. Lester Pinelli, mother of Mrs. Bill Burnett is in Hill side hospital recovering from a major operation. Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Johnson were dinner guests at the Ray Marchant's on Friday evening to help Ray celebrate his birth day. The club met April 3 at the high school under the leadership of Hilary Winebar ger. Ten members of the club are raising calves in preparation for the annual 4-H show next fall. Seaman 1c Merle Woodley made a surprise visit to his home and parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Woodley, last weekend. He has been stationed at Treasure Is land but has been transferred re cently to Mare island near Valle jo. He expects to be discharged about July 1 and has been in the service 20 months. The Merrill Library club met April 4 at the home of Mrs. M. A. Bowman with Mrs. Joe Bai ley and Mrs. Riley DeLap as co hostesses. Mrs. Harold King was greeted as a new member. It was announced that a cedar chest was purchased which mem bers in the next few months will fill with household linens and other items had been purchased. The filled chest will be sold to raise funds for carrying on club activities. Ten dollars was do nated to the Red Cross. Mrs. Albert Blake was ap pointed by the president, Mrs. William Walker to serve as chair man of the book committee for the next three months. Present for the meeting were Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Joe Bailey, Mrs. Bowman, Mrs. Riley De Lap, Mrs. J. Leland Pope, Mrs. R. L. Campbell home In the Pine Grove district on the evening of March 23. Hostesses were Mrs. Basil Brown, Mrs. lr vin Campbell and Mrs. A. R. Campbell. There were nine tables play ing throughout the evening and high scores went to Mrs. George Stevenson and Chet Wilson. At the close of the evening delicious refreshments were served. George Stevenson Jr., (Stevie) is confined to the family home with an attack of mumps. Curtis Gebhardt is a patient at the Hillside hospital where he submitted to major surgery the evening of April 1. His condi tion is reported to be improving, Mrs. Nona Corpening spent the past weekend in Bonanza, where she was the guest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hickman. Sunday was the 81st birthday of Hick man. They are pioneer residents of Bonanza and huvc operated the hotel in that little town for over 20 years. Until the last few years Hickman also owned and operated a barber shop in con nection with the hotel. They came to Klamath county In 1910. Jane Sanders of Portland vis ited with the Grigsby, Brown and Grimes families last week. Philippines Need Huge Lumber Supply MANILA. April 11 (I') Gov ernment forestry experts esti mated today that the Philippines require 4,500,000.000 board feet of lumber for reconstruction. At the rate the islands' U2 saw mills are producing, it would take 30 years to fill the require ments. Lumber now sells for as high as $300 a thousand board feet.
