Speaking Contest Six boys competed In the pub lic speaking contest which was judged by John Wclbes, agricul tural advisor at Albany, William McKinney, advisor at Salem and Charles Woodhouse, KUHS. John Richardson of Lakevlew placed first in this contest, talk ing on f armer, wnat next? , Frank Pricster, Roscburg, sec ond, "Formers Economic Situa tion of the Postwar World"; Bob Rexford, Henley, third, "Food to Keep the Peace"; Larry Johnson, Malln, fourth, "Why be a Farm er." Two Problems Two problems were given in tho mathematics contest, each taking an hour to solve. Bob Victorlne, Malin, and Roy Ren ner, Grants Pass, finished first with correct answers; Darrell Stafford and Johnnie Polndexter of Lakevlew finished second: Keith Henson and Arnold Pat terson of Roscburg, third. In farm accounting. Dean Sha bel of Lakeview placed first; Art Fobs, Redmond, second; Doug Williams, Ajakeview, inira, ana Jolh Lindsay. Malin. fourth Malin placed first, Grants Pass second, Redmond third and Hen ley fourth in the parliamentary contest. Junior Kester was chosen outstanding chapter presi dent for tho day. Victory Parade It was voted at the convention to send a trainload of boys from Oregon to national headquarters of FFA, Kansas City, in October, 1946, for the victory parade of Future Farmers of America. It was also agreed to show beef stock as well as dairy stocK at the state fair in the fall this year and at the Pacific Interna tional Livestock show In Port land. The slate convention will be held April 11 and 12 in Salem and each chapter plans on send ing two delegates. MAIN FLOOR Junior Indian Council To Be Reorganized The Klamath Junior council will reorganize at a meeting scheduled for March 13 at 7:30 p. m., in the council house at Klamath Indian Agency, it was announced today by Friedman Kirk, Beting chairman. World War 2 veterans are es pecially Invited to attend the ses sion and to join the Junior coun cil. Officers will be elected and a program for the coming year outlined. Ail cnarter members were urged to attend, Kirk said, and refreshments will be served following the meeting. The Junior council adjourned May 13. 1942. for the duration and the meeting slated next weeK is tne first since that date. Family Stops Fire In House MALIN, March S Fire of unknown origin, apparently .starting in a clothes closet in the C. J, Cook home, destroyed clothing belonging to 12 mem bers of the family Monday night. A boy, one of 10 children, had his hair burned while fight ing the flames, brought under control by the family which formed a bucket brigade. All windows in the house were shattered by the heat and dam age was estimated between $200 and $300. The Merrill fire de partment made a record run to tho house which is located seven miles southeast of Mer rill on the Earl McVey ranch. The fire was under control on arrival of the truck.
