Everyone with Income of $800 or more In 104R must file a rottirn on or before March 19. 2, Somo people also, by that date, will have to file an est! mate on their tax for 1040 und puy tho first Installment on It. Take tho two groups which must do something about tuxos by Morcli IB. Qrotip 1: File Return You man, woman, child, mar ried or slnglo must file a re turn If your 1045 Income was S300 or more. You must do this even though the full tux was withheld from your wages Ar salary In 1043 and you don t owe any further tax. Your return must show how much your Income was. how much tux, If any, was withheld from you, or how much tax you owe. If your return shows too much tax withheld in 1043, you'll get a government refund by filing the return, If It shows you still owe the government tux on your i4 in come, you'll havo lo pay when you file tho return. Remember; You can set a SS00 exemption for every person de pendent on you. you con t claim as dependent anyone whose In come was S8Q0 or more, evon though you contributed to more tnnn nnir his support in 1U4D, If the 1843 Income of your do pendent soy a child was less than S300. he docsn t have to re port it. You don't report It In your return. Supposc-a child earned $500 or more In 1045. Who makes tho return: child or parent? The child makes it. Although the parent can't claim his as 'an exemption since the child made $500 or more tho parent nevertheless Is responsible for paying the tax If tho child doesn't puy. But If your wlfo had Income no matter how small you con not claim the usual $300 exemp tion for her unless you Include her Income In a joint return. Refund Suppose you made less than $500, you're entitled to a refund on tuxes withheld. If you file tho return In this case, you get a refund. If you don't file, you don't get It. So much for that. Remember this, before looking at group. No. 2, mentioned at the start of this story: In 1940 full tax will be with held from wages and salaries of people, making up to $3000. These people don't liuvo to do anything, Uncle Sum collects their lax regulnrly through pay roll deductions. ' Now tuko group No. 2: People In this group by March 15 must not only flic un estimate on ull or pnrt of tho tax they'll owe on 1040 Income but sturt pitying the first of four Install ments on It. Those who arc not wngo- oarnors or salaried workers und so don t have taxes deducted from their Income but who ex pect to muka $500 or moro in 1046. Example Example: A doctor whoso In come is entirely from fees but will bo $500 or more: a landlord whoso only Income is rent but will be $500 or moro. 2. Wage-earners und salaried workers who expect to make $9000 or more in 1046 and from whoso earnings full tux will not be withhold. Example: A. A wage corner who expects to cam moro than $5000, plus $800 for every exemption except his own. For Instance: A single person who expects to make $5001 will havo to file an estimate but not a person who nas one dependent unless ho ox pects to make more than $5300; rtor a person with two de pendents unless he expects to make more than $0000, and so on 1 up. B. If In addition to wages from which tux is withheld a person expects more than $100, and If his total Income Is $500 or more, ha must fllo an estimate and sturt paying the tux on that niorc-thun-$100 outside Income. For Instunco: A man who makes olily $2500 lr) wages from which full tax is withheld, but who expects to get at least $101 from some other source, like profit from a farm or rent from a room.
