Six Men Pay Heavy Fine? For Deer Meat Possession Six Klamath men were arrest ed yesterday and paid heavy fines in justice court for illegal possession of venison. They were caught with the dressed car casses of six does, five of them fresh. Leo Elvin Friend Sr., and Wil liam Thomas Myers, an employe of Friend, both pleaded guilty to havine the venison In their do session and were fined $130 and $7.20 costs yesterday afternoon, Both denied having shot the animals. Later Leo Elvin Friend Jr., John Nelson Friend, Elmer Nathaniel Carlson and Edward Thomas Bentley pleaded guilty to the same charge and each was fined $150 and costs. The deer were killed in the ' California lava beds winter graz ing area. Yesterday the Cali fornia -state police found the place where they had been slaughtered and trailed the car bearing the venison and hides back to the state line. They gave the auto license number to the local state police and Monday morning a state offi cer went to rrlend s house and found the five freshly skinned and cleaned carcasses, one other carcass which apparently had been killed about two weeks ago and the hides. The dressed carcasses were fat and in good condition a mute denial of the contention that deer are starving on the Cali fornia winter range. By justice court order the meat was confiscated and given to the county poor farm. None of the men was accused of killing the deer, the charge being only possession of venison out of season, but there was some discussion as to whether the last four men brought into court should be returned to California to face charges of the illegal hunting. Phone 3863 By MARTHA CASSIDY The kegling cuties of the Lady Bug league Thursday night fought head pins to aid the in fantile paralysis campaign of the nationwide March of Dimes. All members interested bowled one line, one ball to a frame, and $18.50 was contributed to the cause. First prize for high score went to Martha Cassidy, second to Destie Peters. Dena Backes, chairman of the infantile paralysis campaign and captain of Daggett's Insurance five, was unable to be present, due to severe injuries suffered earlier in the week. Mrs. Backes will be unable to complete the bowling season and will be missed greatly by all members of the league. Every team was determined to win three games Thursday, and this is the way they split the pine: Fluhrer's out-bowled Safe way for the full count, Houston's Beauty Shop gained three vic tories from Daggett's, and Coca Cola moved up to third place after a hard climb from the bot tom by taking all three from Hazel's Beauty Shop. Trouble with a few total scores on five and six may surprise both teams, for after much figuring we see Black & White the victors with two wins over Crater Hotel. The Belcastro-Lipscomb fracas is on a winner-take-all basis and is a culmination of last week's unscheduled fistifuffs in which Pete floored Buck with a right to the chin from ringside, then vanished before the irate Lips comb could retaliate. Belcastro's recent successes in the ring have instilled within him the notion that he is the logical contender for Lynam's crown and he is pushing every advantage in order to command a title match in the future.
