JVtontgomery Ward TOKOTEE LINE TO KLAMATH PLANNED Power Plant License Asked California Oregon Power com pany's Tokotee lulls project pro nosed for the North Umuoua river will be connected with the Klamath bnsin directly by trans mission line, according to present plans of the company revealed today. If the necessary permission is granted and the company builds the power plant, the first trans mission line will be built to Dixonvillc near Kosebure, which is about 47 miles from the plant. It is then planned to con struct another line, passing on the east side of Crater Lake na tional park, and connecting with Ho Keep your floors cleaner . . . longer. This program will give the Klamnth basin transmission power inlets from the north as well as the south, providing add ed assurance of steady supply of power for this area. Two lines come in from the south now, mid another will then come in from the north, License Sought A request for n license to con struct has recently been made to the federal power commission, following preliminary applica tions, and a license to construct will be asked immediately of the state commission. If licenses are granted by state and federal authorities, construc tion will start this year to be completed in 1948. The applica-. tions arc based on a plant capacity of 25,000 kilowatts to be operated basically as a stream flow plant. Estimated cost of the construction, including the Dixonville transmission line but not including the Klumath busin line, is $3,200,000. Location The Tokotee project is located at Toketee falls on the North Umpqua in Douglas county, about 80 miles by road from Roseburg and a little more thnn 100 miles from Klamath Falls. The river at this location flows through a rugged canyon and for about four miles averages a fall of more than 100 feet pc mile. Tokotee is one of six proposed pojects on the North Umpqua and its tributaries. Diversion dam at Tokotee will consist of a main earth fill sec tion having a maximum height of 45 feet and a crest length of 350 feet. A steel sheet pile cut off will be provided. A rein forced concrete outlet structure will be incorporated in the fill. Flanking the main section on one bank will be a short concrete gravity dam and a concrete over flow spillway section with a lined channel leading to the river below the dam. A powerhouse on concrete foundations will house two verti cal generating units and the elec trical control and switching equipment. The plant will have two vertical reaction turbines in cast steel spiral scroll settings connected to penstocks leading to the plant. The turbines will be directly connected to alternat ing current generators. Each turbine unit will have a water capacity of 425 second feet and . will deliver 18.000 B. H.
