Add applesauce and flour mixture alternately;, beat until smooth. Add fruit and nutmeats. Pour into well-greased loaf pain (9x4x3) and bake in moderate, overi (350 F.) for 1 hour or until don. Makes one loaf cake. GINGER SNAPS i2 cup shortening 2 cups flour 1 cup-sugar 1 egg, beaten 1 tsp. soda Yz cup dark ' molasses 1 Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy; add egg. Stir in combined soda and molasses. Sift and measure flour; sift again with cinnamon, ginger and salt. Blend well into creamed mixture. Chill about 1 hour. Shape dough into small balls between palms of hands. Place balls on lightly -greased cookie sheet about 1 Zt to 2 inches apart. Bake in a mod erate oven (350 F.) 15 to 18 min utes, or until done.
