Sugar Stocks In Java Drop BATAVIA. Javo. Dec. 6 (Pi F.ost Indies sugar experts dis closed today Java's sugar stocks were dwindling because of the current Indonesian unrest, and Netherlands East Indies authorl' tics said other nations would be lucky to get any Java sugar at all. Britain, the United States and ovon the normally sweets-export-lng Philippines are bidding for a share of the Java stocks, which the Japanese reported had to talled 1,500,000 tons at the and of the war. The East Indies themselves relying on Java production, con sume 500,000 tons of sugar an nually, authorities pointed out, and the situation is further com plicated by the economic up heaval attendant upon the Indo nesian independence movement. "I am afraid not much sugar will be available for export when tha situation clears up," said Dr. P. J. Honls, chief of agricul tural affairs of the Netherlands East Indies economic depart ment. "The chamber of commerce tries to work for tho best Inter ests of all segments of tho coun ty." Mrs. Vitus stated. "We al ready have over 50 farmers in the membership, but considering the Importance of farming to the county, wo should have a great muny more. Folders Mallsd A special folder showing re cent activities of tho chamber of commerce which have been of benefit to Klamath county farm' ers has been mailed out to those whom the membership commit tee believed to be most Inter ested. Tho folder lists success ful efforts, usually in coopera- tlon with one or more other Interested organizations, to se cure additional allotments of re frigerator cars, a problem which la again holding chamber oi commerce attention. Other recent activities Inclild ed efforts to obtain additional fertilizer last spring, a fight against diversion of water from the Klamath basin to the Cen- tral valleys of California and offers a cooperation in the fields of freight rates, potato advertis ing and development of stock show facilities. The folder also points out that farmers make up the entire per sonnel of the chamber's agricul ture committee and a great ma jority of the land use committee. There also are three full-time farmers on the chamber board plus four other men who have substantial farming Interests, The membership committee hopes to secure sufficient addi tional farmer members to have adequate representation of agri cultural interests in the cham ber on a basis both of numbers and geographic distribution. Eleven Nazis To Be Hanged HERFORD, Germany, Dec. 8 (P) Field Marshal Sir Bernard L. Montgomery today rejected all appeals of Belsen concentra tion camp defendants and or dered Commander Josef Kra mer, Blonde Irma Grese and nine other officials of the Belsen and Oswiecim camps to be hanged. In addition to Kramer, the 39-year-old "beast of Belsen," and the 22-year-old, pistol-packing Miss Grese, the defendants to dio are: Dr. Fritz Klein, Peter Wein gartner, Ansgar Plchen, Karl Francioh, Wllhelm Dorr, Franz Starfle, Elizabeth Volkenrath, Juana Borman, and Franz Hoesz ler. They were among SO former officials and guards at the tor ture camps convicted of atrocities. Bail Set At $5000 In Rape Case Here Ball for David Samuel Van Cleave, 59, charged with statu tory rape against his own 12-year-old daughter, has been set at $5000 cash after a preliminary hearing in justice court and the itinerant worker has been re turned to the county jail unable to raise the money. Van Cleave was arrested Thursday at Midland by state police. The charges against him were filed by his former wife after the girl had informed the juvenile office of the treatment she had received from her fath er. The Van Cleaves are divorced.
