Add lentils or beans, which have been washed; add water, cover; simmer 3 hours, or until beans are soft, adding more water as needed. Rub through sieve; reheat; add well mixed seasonings. Melt shortening; stir in flour; add atrained soup mix ture gradually; cook 3 minutes, stir ring constantly, until smooth and thickened. Turn into serving dishes; garnish with thin slices of hard cooked egg and lemon. Serves 4.
