Jake Leicht, who turned out for his first practice yesterday, and Bobby Reynolds, ace per former against Washington last week, worked on what they hope will be a star backfield combination. Today's was the last heavy workout. Already the Beavers have drilled intensively on de fensive tactics, with emphasis on protection from Idaho s triple threat halfback, Jim Hatch. Torrid Mat Card Slated For Tonight Georges Dusette will make his ' umpteenth bid to guzzle burly Jack Lipscomb at the Klamath arena tonight and Rough Rufus Jones takes on Ernie Piluso on Promoter Mack Lillard's rassling bill-of-fare. Lillard is staging another bang-up double main event to night in which everything can happen and often does. The ha tred that exists between Dusette and Lipscomb is enough in itself to assure a rough-and-ready tus sle and Rough Rufus is gaining top billing in the northwest by his apparently unbeatable head butts. The savage negro mauler has yet to drop a match in the Klam ath ring and Piluso will be out tonight to accomplish the feat when so many others before him have failed. Dusette and Lipscomb have : clashed here before in some hair raising tussles and everything : goes, including the referee, ! when these two gladiators are matched in a joust. Angelo Martinelli, a good, clean kid from Ohio, will make his mat debut in the opening tiff against none other than rugged ' Bucko Davidson, the ex-marine from San Diego. Wally Moss will part the : groaners in the clinches with ! the show slated to get underway at 8:30. p. m. Oregon State Squad Leaves For Pullman CORVALLIS. Oct. 5 fP) A ' 26-man Oregon State squad was to leave late Thursday for the Beavers' conference opener against Washington State at ; Pullman Saturday. A 500-mile auto trip will be ; broken with an overnight stop : at Columbia. Gorge, bringing the . squad into Pullman in time for a warm-up drill Friday. The club went through a final ! heavy workout yesterday, stress i ing defensive tactics against the ; Cougars' T-formation. Three t first-stringers left end Stan Mc- , guire, left half Dick Gray, and i right guard Harvey Cutts are ; hot expected to see much action, I as a result of injuries in the i Camp Beale contest. i. At the same time the Pelicans take the field against Ashland, Medford will tangle with Eugene and Grants Pass takes on Coos Bay. Coach Paul Angstead said Thursday that his charges were not in the best of physical trim for the ensuing battle with a good many of the boys favoring a twisted ankle or a bad knee. Bill Sari. The Freshman squad is coached by Charles McLin and this will be their first game of the season. be positive of his starting lineup until kickoff time. Jim Pope is slated to replace Dee Nelson at left end as Pope has shown up well in practice sessions lately. He has proved to be a dependable pass receiver and snagged an aerial against Salem last week that was good for a touchdown. The remainder of the Klamath lineup will be the same with Tommy Edwards, Bob Redkey, Herbert Barker and Leroy Cole man in the backfield and Pope, Richard Foust, . Harold Wirth, Roger Vanderhoff. Bob Eastman. Sari, and Chuck Thurman com posing the forward wall. Seven returning lettermen bolster the Grizzly squad with every one capable of plenty of speed. The Pelican backfield doesn't nave to give anything away to any rival eleven, however, when it comes to the speed department and some of the Klamath backs will probably show a clean set of cleats to Ashland tonight. Odds makers have installed the Pelicans as slieht favorites on the basis of the fact that Ash land has not met any opponent wormy oi its mettle. With the weather brisk . and clear, tn. night's game should be one of we most thrilling battles enacted on Modoc field this season. Three Backs Join Cougar Grid Squad PULLMAN, Oct 5 (Ph-Coach Phil Sorboe is having "man power troubles" with the Wash ington State college football team but they consist primarily of trying to keep track of a steady influx of new men. SERIES NOTES DETROIT, Oct. 5 (P) One of the more persistent whispers you hear around the series soda shoppes is that sweet William Terry, the Memphis gentleman who used to manage the Giants, may be coming back to baseball next year as boss of the Boston Braves. Sweet William, himself, isn't talking, but those who usually know one-and-onc about such things laugh off the rumor that he'll be succeeding Del Blsoncttc in Beantown. One reason you get is that BUI insists on being with a winner. OK so you tell us the last time tho Braves were in the money. AIR DEVILS tomorrow will see Washington State's surprising Cougars, 43-14 winners over Idaho last week, tangle with the Oregon State Beavers, tied by Camp Beale 14-14; and Oregon meeting Idaho at Eugene.
