The men conferred with E. Layton Stephens, bureau mana gor hero, on Investigations and tudics being carried on in con nection with further flood con trol on Lost river, to permit ex tending developments in the Tulcliike area. C. William Burmlngham, engi neer with the planning depart ment from Redding, Garfield Stubblcflcld, chief of the hydro logical division of the regional office in Sacramento, and J. R. Sutherland from the regional of fice accounting department, were the visitors. Fili pinos, Americans, Germany s Beast of Warsaw, Col. Josef Meisinger. and others . arrested after General MacArthur placed them on his wanted list re mained in the Yokohama jail. The transfer was made in two covered army trucks accompan ied by three jeeps. The convoy, resembling an ordinary supply train, avoided populated streets. The move was kept secret, tem porarily at least, irom the Japa nese puouc. The same dismal scene had been repeated endlessly throughout Asia the past four years but allied prisoners never rode in covered trucks, no matter what the weather. Haycox To Speak To Library Club Ernest Haycox, author, will be guest speaker at the October meetine of the Woman's Library club Monday afternoon at the iiorary club rooms, Mrs. R. P. Ellingson, president of the or ganization, has announced. Haycox, a native Oregonian, is in this section of Oregon in connection with the filming of his book, "Canyon Passage."
