As soon as the men reach their army redistribution point, many more telegrams ore sent. At Camp Shanks, a typical Now York port of embarkation camp, tho top volume is uround .10,000 a day, Many of these self-composed telegrams sparkle with true GI originality: "Just shook hands with the Stutuo of. Liber ty! Sec you in a,few days." Tho dynamic spirit and ever ready sense of humor of the men is reflected in communiques like theso: "Established a beach head at Now York today. Objec tive: home soon." "HI, darling! Hide tho milkman, I'll bo home PDQ. Love." "Sunday, Monday or, well, Tuesday! Great day In the morning! 1 love you." Other messages read, "Feed the fryers and straighten out the fishing liicklcl" "Landing accomplished. Get big buckets of red paint!" "O boy, O boy and stuff!" And "Coming In on a wing and a bottle!" Hospitalized veterans who arc unable to walk to any of the six telegraph offices located at Camp Shanks, prepare their tele grams with the bedside assist ance of Red Cross Gray Ladies and telegraph employes who visit each ward. As an aid to wheelchair pa tients, a special telegraph desk is provided for the camp hospi tal office. The desk is built so that the wheelchair will go un der the desk top. Soldiers Ask Release From Overseas Duty SEATTLE, Aug. 30 (P) The Post-Intelligencer said today it had been visited by a delegation of soldiers who had served 27 months in the Aleutians and de clared, "We don't think we should be sent overseas again." In the group were Sgt. Rav sell M. J. Smith of Pittsburgh; Sgt. Lewis P. Gadowski of Bat tle Creek, Mich.; Sgt. James P. Robertson, Baytown, Tex., and Sgt. Harry Salsl, Irwin, Pa. "At least 93 of our men are eligible for discharge under the proposed . 60-point plan," said i tgt. Kobcrtson. "Are they going to send us out In the middle of the Pacific to discharge us?" The council Is a creation of the re cent Potsdam Big Three con ference. To Hear Menaces Secretary of State Byrnes Is expected to propose full hearings in order to bring out all facts related to any controversial mat ters he fears might menace the pence of Europe. Byrnes also is understood to have several other suggestions designed to speed up the work of the council. It has been as signed the task of drawing up proposed peace treaties for Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Finland, In addition to recom mending solutions for the terri torial disputes. Expert Committee One proposal Byrnes may make would establish commit tees of experts to deal with the major specialized problems. For example, a committee of experts on Italy could be created to draw up a report on proposed terms of the allied-Italian pcaco treaty. When the report on Italy was ready, tho foreign ministers themselves would consider it, then give Italian government of ficials an opportunity to present their views.
