Hill has been a member of the "Hard Luck" artillery bat talion, as the 550th has been in combat zones for 26 months without firing a round. Formerly the second battalion of the 30th field artillery regi ment, the 550th missed out on battle participation stars by six degrees latitude once and attain by six days and six miles. Anci the critical 85-point score, and two stars would entitle 80 per cent of the battalion to dis charges. The battalion went to Kodtak, Alaska, in June, 1942, and there became the most heavily armed artillery unit In existence. In ad dition to the regular quota of twelve 155mm howitzers, the cannoneers manned twelve 155mm M-l guns. "Long Toms," 6-tncn naval gun. a 75mm sun. and a complete set of mortars and Infantry weapons. But not a round was fired. Redesignated the 550th upon Its return to the U. S. In April, 1944. the artillerymen trained infantry troops for the big push es in the ETO, then went to Eu rope In March, 1945. Security and military government duties around Simmenv Germany, oc cupied tneir attention through V-E Da,v. Again, no gun was fired, and the men found thorn- selves on the "wrong side" of me unine lor a battle star. KENO Four service men, all of whom were former Keno boys, greeted one another here a few days ago. All four were home on leaves or furloughs. They were Pvt. Robert Grimes, from Texas; S 2c Ralph Hoi lingworth from the South Pa cific; S 2c Delbert Puckett, from San Diego, Calif., and 1st Lt. Robert Puckett from Germany. It was the first time the boys had all been together for at least two years. Grimes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Grimes, now of Klamath Falls; Hollingworth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hollingworth, Klamath Falls; Delbert Puckett is the son of Mrs. Vernon Pucket, Keno; Rob ert Puckett is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Puckett of .Tulelake. S. 2c" Delbert Puckett left for Florida recently. The others are still at home. Farmer Suffers Foil From Tractor NEW PINE CREEK Darvin Robnett suffered a unique mis hap recently. He worked later than the rest of the hay crew, ac cording to reports, in -order to finish mowing one' field. But when 'he failed to come in at dark for supper, long after he should have finished, a search was made to find out what was keeping him. His hired man Pete Svaij, found him crawling up the lane toward the house. He had had one of his periodical attacks, being not In too sood health, and had fallen from the tractor seat, hurting his back The tractor kept right on going Whan ia Madford Stay at HOTEL HOLLAND Thoroughly Modern Joi and Anna Earlay ' Proprietors BIKES FOR RENT MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR SUNDAY PHona 6520 222 S. 7th POOLE'S BICYCLE STORE DEVELOPING ENLARGING . ; PRINTING PHOTO SERVICE 211 Underwood Bldg. sense, plowed through three (enrcs in Hi iinmiy ouiicn linen Into n hny-sliu'k and stoppi'd.
