C. Hankc Jr.. of Vancouver, Wash., lost Friday. La Vanwoy is alleged to have abandoned a Plymouth coupe at Vancouver nnd stolen the Dodge after switching license plates. He drove the Dodge to Summer lake where he burned out a rod in the car. La Vanwoy was picked up by state police after he hod left the stolen car at Summer lake in Lake county and had hitch-hiked a ride to Lokcview to obtain rc- Kolrs for the auto. The people c was riding with became sus picious and notified state police who checked the car and found it listed as stolen. They later arrested La Vonway. Housing Unit Bids Re-Opened Bids will bo re-opened on the reconstruction of 48 civilian housing units for Klamath Falls, Howard Pcrrin, architect, un nounccd today. The date has been set lor August J, at 4 p. m. in Seattle. Six two-story buildings will be moved here from Vancouver, Wash., on this project. The houses will be moved and set up for living purposes 100 days after the contractor, to whom the bid is let, receives notice to proceed. A lone bid from Halvorson Construction company, Salem, was received when bids for con tracts were opened last week. Bidding will be re-opened in the hope of getting more bidders. William Kennedy, Portland agency manager, said the $8500 planes could be bought for 15 per cent down, 7J per cent of tno unpaid ouioncc lor insur ance, and tho rest in 36 month ly payments. Kennedy also announced today a nation-wide sale of government-owned paints, varnishes and lacquers, with many avail able at the Portland warehouse. Prime Minister Tells Aussie Cut CANBERRA, July 30 fP) Australia Dlans to reduce her army 50 per cent and her air force nearly as much, but con siders it vital that her forces take part in the main offensive against Japan, Prime Minister J. B. Chifley told the house of representatives. He said the army would be cut from six divisions to three and the air force from 53 squad rons to 36, but that the navy would be maintained at its pres ent strength. Horshey said here Saturday that selective serv ice will continue to draft men after V-J day. Gen. Hershey said the neces sity for maintaining strong oc cupation forces on two contin ents after V-J day would mean the continuation of drafting In order to replace men who arc eligible for discharge under the point system. "Wc plan to continue drafting 100,000 men a month until July, 1946," the draft t director as serted. "Of course'we could cut that if the war should end be fore then." He added that ho believed the high draft rate would be continued through the next year "regardless of en couraging events."
