Williams (lew o the states from Sliipan, where he had gone from Okinawa. After entering the service three years ago, young Williams went to Harvard. He saw some duty in the Atlantic and has been in the Pacific for IB months. A graduate of Klamath Union high school in '32, he has been on Admiral Richmond K. Tur ner's staff, and has been aboard Turner's ship throughout his Pa cific service. He wears the Phil ippines theater service stripe with two engagement stars, and the Oriental theater stripe with four stars. No 'Vet' Problem, Says Major Baker PULLMAN. July 14 (VP) No "veteran" problem exists except as persons create it by segregat ing the service man or trying to direct his thinking or actions, Major William Y. Baker, chief of the neuropsychiatry: division nt Fort George Wright, told the faculty of Washington State col lege yesterday. Major Baker criticized pub lished material on "the veteran problem," and contended "too much of our planning for the returning veteran Is based on such writings." Using a Tommy-gun, an automatic rifle and a Garand, he killed 30 Japs, while a bul let tortt through his left arm, two more broke his right arm above the elbow, another ripped through his trigger finger, a fifth went into his back, emerg ing from his left hip and a sixth nicked his right hip After rescue by medicos, he wrote his -mother that he was laid up because his arm had suffered a "Jar." CHARLES CUM MINGS and young daughter Jill Marie are awaiting the time when "daddy" comes home. He is a seaman 1c aboard the USS Nevada. Jill Marie was eight months old on July 12. VFW Auxiliary Mrs. Walter Thompson presid ed over the meeting of the auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, held in the library clubroom on the evening of July 5, and 20 members' were present. Five candidates were initiated, Doris White, Catherino Tucker, Lula Woodward, Nellie Luttrell and Mary Paulson, a Wave. The last-named is the first service woman to be initiated here. The hospital committee re ported a letter from the state hospital thanking the organiza tion for its generous contribu tion. The council meeting, scheduled to be held in Salem on July 15, has been postponed until a later date. Mrs. Ada Larson, who was honored recently over radio sta tion KFJI and who received the citizenship citation because of having seven sons in service, was present and gave an in teresting talk, at the same time thanking the auxiliary for .the corsage presented her. The sDccial award of the evening went to Florence Miller. At the next meeting, July 19, the auxiliary will entertain Fencan post at a luncheon following their meetings. Rebekahs A reeular meetine of Prosper ity Rcbekah lodge was held in the IOOF hall. Thursday, June 5. at 8 d. m. Nina Currier, noble Brand, presided. Only routine business was conducted, and at the close, refreshments were served by Martha Gilcrist and Nina Currier. At the next meet ing, July 19, the social club will be in charge of Refreshments. Employes Enjoy Technicolor Movies Following the meeting of United Telephone Employes of Oregon, Inc., Friday, the mem bership, together with their su pervisors, families and friends enjoyed technicolor movies of the Alcan, highway by Noel Bccar. The pictures were made while Becar was engaged in installing telephone equipment on "Tokyo Turnpike" as the Alcan was known to the men on the job in 1943. This film has now Be come part of the historical file of Western Electric company and has been widely-known to telephone people throughout the nation. A second film enjoyed was "Gone With the Western," a well-edited comedy by Becar on tho problems and pleasures of a Western Electric employe en gaged in installing central office equipment in Klamath Falls in 1940, when the new telephone exchange was placed in service. Return Mrs. Louis Robin and son, Don, have returned from Mountain Home, Ida., where thoy have been visiting. Don is home on furlough from Kessler field. Miss. He waived preliminary hearing and grand jury indictment and bail was set at $1000 cash. He was committed to the county jail In lieu of bail. Rogers allegedly stole an out board motor valued at $400 from Ed Iscnsee at Lake o' the Woods July 8. Rogers pleaded guilty to a charge of petty larceny and was given five days in the county Jail with three days suspended by Justice J. A. Mahoney. The two days he has already been incarcerated in jail will bo cred ited to his sentence. He admit ted stealing an automobile spot light in connection with numer ous thefts from cars here. He will now appear before Circuit Court Judge David R. Vandenberg to enter a plea on the grand larceny charge. E 0 JAP CENTERS WASHINGTON, July 14 (IP) The war relocation authority today announced closing dates for the eight Japanese and Japanese-American relocation cen ters. The centers and the dates by which they will be closed are: Granada at Amache, Colo., October IS; Central Utah at Topaz, Utah, and Minidoka at Hunt, Idaho, November 1; Hart Mountain, Wyo., and Gila River at Rivers, Ariz., November 15; Colorado River at Poston, Ariz., and Manzanar, Calif., December 1 and Rohwer, Ark., December 15. Plans for disposition of the Tule Lake segregation center will be announced later. Police Nob 5 Women In Washington Raid WASHINGTON, July 14 (VP) Five women were charged with vagrancy today after police raided an apartment in which they said they found two "high government officials" and four other men. Two of the women, identified by police as Carmen Beach, 29, former rhumba dancer, and Margaret Locke, 57 (alias Phil omena Lockard), were charged additionally with operating a house of prostitution.
