At Many Affairs
Amidst the confusion of moving, Col. and Mrs. George O.
Van Ordcn and two children, George Jr. and Florette, have been
honored at many informal affairs this past week, and next week
also promises to be a busy one for them.
The Van Ordens are leaving the Marine Barracks next week
and at that time Col. Merlin Schneider will assume command of
the post.
Last week Mrs. Van Orden was guest of honor at a progressive
no-hostess luncheon with guests being served different courses at
different Homes

Being Honored
With the advent of general midsummer lull, visitors In
town ore prompting most of the recent social activities. Ad
vantage Is being taken by many of the opportunity to take a
few days or weeks off and spend some time at cabins and homes
ut nearby mountain lakes. Most cabins at the lakes have been
full to the brim during the past several weeks of warm weather.
Spending some time here now as the guests of Mr. and
Mrs. 11. R. Macartney at their home on Washington street, are
Margaret Taylor of Wellslcy, Mass., and her sister, Mrs. Lcs
Avrit, tho former Sally Taylor.

For the benefit of those who
arc not so fortunate in oeing
able to go to the lake for these
warm weekends, two swimming
pools are now open for public
use. The. pool at one end of
Modoe field is being ODcned for
an adult swimming program this
weekend and the huge new pool
at the Marine Barracks is open
for civilian use evenings after
six o'clock with the exception
of Thursday and after one o'clock
on Wednesdays, Saturdays ana
Sundays.
For those who enjoy pho-
toeraDhv. a wonderful opportun
ity has been offered by the USO
at their camera club meetings.
Dark room facilities have also
been opened to tho public and
those interested need only to
sign up for a certain time and
the equipment will be available
to them.

USO Dance
A Pan-American dance with
rhumbas and a conga line are in
store for servicemen attending
the Monday night dance on July
16 at the USO clubrooms at 11th
and Walnut.
Junior hostesses will be in
charge of the dance and music
will be furnished by the Marine
Barracks band.
Decorations will be put up for
the dance by Junior hostesses
and servicemen at a party to be
held on Saturday '. night at the
USO starting at 8 o'clock; Small
replicas of Pan-American flags
will be used around the room
and girls will wear bright col
ored dresses in the "fiesta"
theme for the Monday dance.
On Sunday, the USO will be
entirely staffed by girls from the
junior nostess organization.
Girls will be stationed at the
snack bar, the soda fountain, the
check room and the information
desk.

The bride was lovely in a gown fashioned with a white satin
bodice with long sleeves and a net chiffon skirt. She wore a
fingertip veil caught in a coronet of orange blossoms and carried
a bouquet of white rosebuds with sweet peas. She was given In"
