TAX REFUNDS
WASHINGTON, July 12 (VP)
The senuto finance commltteo to

tho excess profits tux and speed
up tux refunds to corporations.
Tho measure, already passed
by tho house, is designed to im
prove tho cash position of cor

000 to speed reconversion.
Chairman Oeorgo (D-Gu.) sold
thut wlille tho bill in generul
was approved there would have
to bo a poll of absent members
on tho quostlon of retaining ono
provision.
Earlier, Oolln F. Stamm, chief
of tho Joint commltteo on taxa

speed Is essential If tho measure
is to hnvo tho desired effect of
facilitating reconversion,
"Buslncssmon aro now plan
ning for reconversion and read
justment to pcucctlmo opera
tions," ho sulci. "Tho Immedl
ute enactment of this bill would
facilitate, this planning."
The' measure, passed by the
house lust week, would:
1. Increnso tho excess-profits
exemption from 10,000 to $25,
000 effcctlvo with the 1040 tax
year.
2. Allow corporations to take
currently tho postwar credit of
10 per cent of tho excess profile
tax.
3. Advance to January 1, 1046,
tho maturity date of outstanding
post-war refund bonds.
4. Provide for snccd-up of re
funds duo as a result of previous
operating losses or unused excess-profits
credits.
Answering a question from
Chairman George (D-Ga.),
Stamm estimated the change In
the excess profits tax would re
