Oregon-grown seeds are pro
viding a protective cover for
approximately 600,000 acres of
southern states' farm land
through tho operation of the
1044 seed, purchase program, ac
cording to a report from the
state AAA committee.
About one-fourth of the total
1044 Oregon crop of covor crop
seeds was purchased by the
AAA from Oregon growers and
dealers. Shipped to southern
states, the seed Is distributed by
AAA to furmvrs through a con
servation materials program
similar to thut In effect here
for Urn and phosphate. Cost of
the seed Is deducted from the
furmer's AAA practice payment,
und ho in turn used the seed to
grow cover crops to check ero
sion and restore fortuity to de
pleted soils.
The guaranteed prices under
Hie purchase program have en
abled Oregon growers to ex
pand production of cover crop
seeds, thus furnishing a depend
able source of supply of seed
to stimulate the practice of
cover cropping m souinem
slates, ins AAA commutes ex
olalns.
Purchases In 1044 brought to
237 million pounds 4000 car
loads the amount of Oregon
seed bought and shipped by the
AAA since the program was In
stituted In 1040. Largest single
year was 1042, when the cross-
continent movement or seed un

86 millions pounds.

Pour evaporated milk or cream into rreering
bray of refrigerator. Chill until ice crystals start to
form around the edge. Place in chilled bowl and
