Governor Earl Snell, who has accepted a state salvage com mittee invitation to be honorary drive chairman, issued the fol lowing statement: "The salvage of waste paper and tin has been declared by the war production board as a continuing vital necessity if our War production plants are to operate at capacity. The two fold purpose of this drive to aid our boys 'over there' and help crippled youngsters here at home is worthy of the support of all Oregon citizens." r Sersanous and Ethel Keck, chairman of women's activities for the state salvage committee, are serving as general drive chairmen and a state executive committee has been set up to execute the program. . Fourth of July vacationers, ex pected to use the forest areas of Oregon in large numbers next week, will enter forest lands when the red warning flag of fire Is flying, according to Walter Wiesendanger, chair man of the Klamath count; Keep Oregon Green association Heat of the past few days has dried out the grass and fuel in timber areas to create a real fire hazard, the KOG count chairman pointed out. Ph. 4103 Martin Swanson Named Salvation Army Head Chairman for the coming year of the Salvation Army will be Martin Swanson, who was elect ed at the luncheon meeting held in the Salvation Army dining hall Tuesday noon. Other officers elected are Jim Kerns, vice chairman; Lloyd Porter, treasurer, and Percy Wells, secretary. The tentative budget for next year was also discussed. Mem bers of the advisory board were present RODEO SET OVER FOURTH IN BEATTY The Beatty rodeo, advertised as the "only all-Indian amateur rodeo in the northwest," will be held on July 4 and 3. Jesse Lee Kirk, who is in charge, said that a free barbe cue will be given at Beatty on the afternoon of . July 3, and there will be a dance that eve ning at the school gymnasium. The two-day rodeo will be held st the rodeo grounds to the south of the Lakeview high way, right in the town of Beatty. All Indians will be admitted free. Tickets for others will be for sale at Beatty at the time of the rodeo. SHERMAN COUNTY Lodges, Lake Resorts Now Open To Local Vacationers The number of farms In Sher man county, as shown by the preliminary count of returns of the 1945 census of agriculture was 292, as compared with Hi in 1940, and 367 in 1935. This was announced today by R. L. Ackerman, supervisor for the 1945 larm census in tne tnira Oregon census district with headquarters at Klamath' Falls. The total land in farm, ac cording to the count, was 471,- 175 acres, as compared with 462,375 acres in 1940, and 438. 220 acres in 1935. Average size of farms shown in the prelim inary 1945 census count for Sherman county was 1614 acres, as compared with 1348 acres in 1940, and 1194 acres in 1935. A large number of lodgs and lake resorts are now open to resident"! of the Klamath Falls area. Owners and proprietors of these various resort spots an ticipate a large Influx of persons seeking relaxation and pleasure. Diamond lake resort, managed by George L. Howard, is again operating on a small scale this year. Housekeeping cottages are available but no bedding or linen is furnished. Rates run from $2.50 to $11 per day. A few sleeping cottages and hotel rooms are open which furnish bedding and linen and the rates for these are from $5 single to $7 per day. The coffee shop Is open tills year to accommodate persons occupying cottages. Boats arc rented for $3 per day, but no outboard motors are available and' persons desiring to furnish gasoline for their own motors must have E. coupons. Diamond lake is located 87 miles north west of Klamath Falls. Lake o' the Woods, another popular resort, is managed by Mr. ' and Mrs. . Dutcher. This beautiful lake' is located 37 miles northwest of Klamath Falls. ' Cres-Del lodge on the Wil lamette highway is owned and n.anaged by Mr. and Mrs. War dell. It is open the year around. Harry T. Mooney operates the Crescent lake lodge which is 104 miles northwest of here. East lake resort is 128 miles north and Is managed by Mrs. George W. McCormack, while Elk lake lodge is operated by Myrtle Simmons and is located 131 miles norm oi tins city. Fish lake resort Is managed by Hush Rankin. PO box 897. Med- ford. It is 47 miles northwest of here. Harriman lodge lies 2S miles north of here and is managed by Mr. and Mrs. Gus Johnson, 759 California, while Odell lodge is operated by Ross W. Flnley and is 104 miles northwest of Klamath Falls. Paulina lake fishing lodge Is under the supervision of Ray H, Reed and Son, La Pine, Oregon, and Summit lodge is owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Hall. Suttle lake lodge is 179 miles due north and is operated by George H. Prince. Located on the upper Wil lamette river, 139 miles from Klamath Falls is the Kitson hot mineral springs resort. A spe cial feature of this resort are the hot mineral springs located there. This resort is managed by W. H. Cash. Rates for the lodge, including room and meals, are $25 a week, cabins are $4 a week. There are numerous sports to be enjoyed at these outstanding resort spots including riding, swimming, fishing and tennis. Rep.
