"4; IX HTHXLD AND NEWS Thursday. Mar 3 Wit FATHER SOUGHT IN SLAYING OF DAUGHTER SHOT KANSAS CITY, May 31 VP) Bay E. Davis, 42, sought In the slaying of his 21-year-old daugh ter, Lula Mae, was found shot to death at his home today. The girl was shot and killed Tuesday night just after she had greeted a soldier friend who had been overseas for two years. Davis fled from the home im mediately after the shooting. The family and friends received numerous phone calls yesterday and last night from a man pur porting to be Davis inquiring about the condition of Lula Mae. She died immediately. Lt, Charles Welch of the hom icide bureau said he and De tective Charles Graham went to the Davis home today on a tip that Davis was there. Graham was stationed at the back door and Welch entered the front door. Welch gave this account: The police lieutenant heard a shot 5n the bedroom and he went toward the room. Davis appeared in the doorway and pointed his gun at Welch. Welch fired and Davis fell, dying soon afterward. It was not determined Imme diately whether Davis had shot himself or had been killed by the shot fired by Welch. Members of the Davis family a frightened mother and two other daughters spent last night at the city welfare de partment and were not at home. Early this morning, police said, Davis called the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Stepp. A sister-in-law who answered said Davis asked where his wife was, if Lula Mae really was dead and when the funeral would be. Runaway Travels From Anchorage To Seattle SEATTLE. May 31 M Rob ert Buresh, 12, of Anchorage, Alaska, arrived here by boat from Seward yesterday on what he told members of the Travel' ers Aid society was a runaway trip from Anchorage to see his lather m j,os Angeies. Robert said his father's name was Tex Buresh but the society had been unable to locate him last night. His mother, he said, is Martha Jean Buresh of Anchorage. The lad spent $3.50, almost his entire "capital," for a train ticket to Seward and stowed away on a boat for the rest of the trip here, where he was forced to stop for lack of funds. Bombs Break Yukon River Ice Jams .
