May 17 (IP) The state department said todny it has received 275 applications from service men for ballots for the special election to be held June 22. Most of tho bal lots are from men overseas. Tho applications are sent to county clerks, who then mall out the ballots. The ballots must be returned by election day. Two propositions, both sub mitted by the legislature, will be on the ballot. Ono would levy a 2-ccnt cigarette tax to ralso $2,000,000 a year for pub lic schools. The other would levy a 8-mlll two-yenr property tax to raise $6,000,000 for higher education buildings. The property tax, however, would nol be levied, since enough income tax surpluses will bo on hand to cancel it. Snow Equipment Ready For Clearing Snow clearing road equipment is stored at the south entrance of Crater Lake national park. It Is the road through this en trance that will bo cleared first, Thomas C. Parker, assistant park superintendent, stated. Snow will be cleared from the south entrance through to Annie Springs, and from Annie Springs out through the west entrance to Med ford. When snow has been cleared from th l much of the road, the equipment will start again at Annie Springs clearing tho road to park headquarters, and from there to the rim of the lake. Clearing will commence about the last of May unless present snow conditions are greatly changed before that time, Park er stated. He plans a trip to the park this week with Ranger Briscoe to check conditions. Vet Administrator Dies In Sawtelle LOS ANGELES, May 17 VP) Dr. Grovcr C. Daniel, 93, head of the Fort Whipple, Ariz., vet erans administration facility, died last night at the national military home in Sawtelle. Born in Chicago, Dr. Daniel had been with tho veterans ad ministration since 1926, serving at Walla Walla, Wash., aa chief medical officer and as clinical director at Sawtelle.
