Haynes, who, with his wife, reported here from the Hawaiion islands. The station command changed hands in a ceremony which took place on Wednesday morning. Double Ring Rites Read In Reno Church Of Interest to their many friends here I. the marriage on Wednesday, May 2. of Robert B. Chilcote, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Chilcote of Klamath Falls, and Barbara Jane Rakcstraw, attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Rakestraw, also of this city. Vows were exchanged at the vine-covered Methodist church in Reno, Nov., at 4:30 in the afternoon, with the Rev. Osborne officiating at the double ring ceremony. The young couple were attended bv Mr. and Mrs. Rakestraw, parents of the bride, and Mr. and Mrs. John Martin. For her wedding, the new Mrs. Chilcote chose a brown suit with matching accessories. For something old, she wore a 75 year-old wedding ring belonging to Mrs., Martin, for something new, she wore her wedding suit, for something borrowed, she car- ricd a lace nanKie . belonging to her mother, for something blue, she wore a blue top coat. She carried a largo bridal bou quet of pink and white spring flowers. Barbara, belter known as Peg gy, was graduated from Klam ath Union high, school in 1939, and later attended the Univer sity of Oregon whore she was affiliated with Alph Chi Omega sorority. Campfire Ride The first campfire ride of the season, sponsored by the Sunset Riding stables, was enjoyed by 72 men and women on Tuesday evening. Riders left tho stables at 7:30 for the seven-mile cross country trot, with 50 on horse back: and 22 . in the gay red and white haywagon drawn by a team of horses. ' Refreshments of wieners, sal ad, coffee and. pop' were served on a -hill overlooking the city, and .music was furnished by three members of the marine band, who played the drums, an accordion and a banjo. Navy Commander, Wife h-lonored Friday Guests of honor at several social affairs during the past week have been Cmdr. and Mrs. R. R. Darron, who left Klamath Falls on'. Thursday of this week. Cmdr. Darron was formerly the com manding officer at the Klamath naval air station, and has been transferred to the naval auxiliary air station at Areata, Calif. He and Mrs. Darron and son, Robert, will spend a 15-day vacation in southern California before' reDortinc to the new haso. Takine over command of the station is Cmdr. Phlt L. May Day Party Novel May Day decorations built around a two-tiered angel food cake delighted the 13 small guests who gathered at the M. H. Melchert home on Johnson street to help young Stuart Melchert celebrate his seventh birthday. The cake was topped with a Maypole, around which was twined peach - c o lo r e d streamers leading to individual blue nut cups, and the colors of peach and blue were carried out in all the table decorations. The gay occasion was cele bratcd on April 30, as Stuart's birthday fell on Sunday. Games were played out-of-doors by his. friends and schoolmates, includ ing Joanne Bogatay. Snyder. 5 Mothers' Tea The members of the PTA at joscpn monger school met for the annual tea for the mothers of the school, and for the last meeting of the year on Wednes. day, May 2. Installation of offi cers took place during the after noon, with Mrs. E. G. Childers as president; Mrs. W. K. Charles- worm, vice president; Mrs. F. S. Kelsay, secretary, and Mrs. Glen Drumblo, treasurer. Mrs. Claude Nelson was the chairman of the installation ceremony, and Mrs. Frank Pey ton installed the newly-elected uuiccrs. i-orsages were present ed to the officers, the past offi cers and the teachers who were hostesses for the day. A gift was presented to Mrs. W. E. Dyer for the outstanding work she has done during the year. A musical program was pre sented by the students after which the teachers served tea to the mothers. Pouring were Augusta Parker, principal at Joseph Conger school, and Mrs. Fred Fletcher. Three Years Old A delightful party was held at the I. E. Campbell home on the Lakevicw highway on April 17, when Mrs. Campbell enter tained a group of the small friends of her son, Aurbry Dale, In honor of his third birthday. The table was attractively decorated with bouquets of sweet peas, a large birthday cake and gifts for the small guests. Those who enjoyed the after noon of games and refreshments were Dickie, Jimmy and Annis Lyle Durrell, Donnie Reeder, Danny Taylor, Linda Ann Newn ham, Dickie Rieling, Gary and Karen Grimes. Voice 'And PiancJ Pupils In Recita The annual recital of voice and piano pupils of Mrs. Don Zumwalt will be held in the auditorium of the city library on Friday evening, May 18, at 7:45 p. m. The program will includo only pupils of grade school and high school rating. A cordial in vitation is extended to all the public who are interested. Twenty-eight Brownies proudly escorted their mothers to a scat, and nrescntcd them with corsages of iris blossoms The troop leader. Julia Gielcr. and her assistants, Mrs. Robert larnc and Mrs. Edward Simp son are teachers in the school, Their Brownies presented a short program, cacn girt taking her turn in a review of all the troop has done during the past year. They called attention to a table full of clever stuffed dolls that they had made, as well as the artistic mats of Bay yarn which they wove by hand on looms of tneir own making. Following the singing of familiar sones. each hostess presented her guest of honor. Miss Gigler welcomed the mothers, and introduced Mrs. Roy Carter, Girl Scout execu tive, and Mrs. D. W. Holloway, training chairman on the Girl Scout council. Mrs. Carter ex plained that a trooo committee was the backbone of a Girl Scout troop, and asked for volunteers from the mothers to carry on the fine work begun bv the nresent leaders. Refreshments were served from an attractive tea table, pre sided over by four little girls in Brownie uniforms, including Shirley Johnson, assisted by Hilda Stanley and Jo Ann Law- son, assisted by Marian Simpson. Mothers Honored At Saturday Tea . Mothers, of all veterans, and especially gold star mothers, were honored at a tea at the Memorial hall on Saturday by members of the American Legion auxiliary, many of whom are mothers of veterans of this war, as well as wives of veterans of the first World War. Favors were presented to all gold star mothers by Mrs. J. H. Gallagher, president of the organization, and she was assisted by Mrs. Keith Ambrose, table decorations; Mrs.-A. Petersteiner, re freshments; Mrs. Julian Abbott, music; Mrs. Fred LaForge, cor sages and flowers; Mrs. Syd Evans, Mrs. Junior Wagner and Mrs. A. D: Tilton, serving, and Mrs. Fred Heilbronner, publicity. Pouring at the tea table from 2 to 3 were Mrs. Clara Shaw and Mrs. Louis Larson.
