! 5 TEN HERALD AND NEWS Tuesday, April 17. 1945 Council Hears Plea For Home for Man On Construction Job Klamath's crowded housing conditions were under consid eration by the city council Mon day night when Marvin Hough, plumber, sought permission to move a trailer house on to land occupied bv the Montgomery Plumbing company on Was h burn way aand Radcliffe. He stated that he would com ply with city sanitary regula tion' if allowed to use the trail er house, but councilmen ob jected that others would imme diately seek permission to live in trailer houses inside the city if his request was granted. They pointed out that other construction workers and ser vice men would use this means of solving their housing prob lems, and that home owners might object if trailers were placed near their property. The construction worker agreed that the city had a prob- lcm, but said that his own was to furnish a decent home for his two children and this seemed the only ' way. He re quested action on it. as soon as possible in order that he might know what to. dg. The. matter was referred to the police com mittee, building inspector, and city engineer at the suggestion of Councilman Rollin Cantrall, who said he would "hate to see the permission granted." The tree-sidewalk p r o b 1cm was brought up when it was pointed out that roots were breaking up walks in the city, and that the trees should be re moved. Councilman Paul Lan dry suggested that it was un wise for the council to act in any way that would discourage the planting of trees as they were needed for the beautit'icu tion of the town. City Engineer E. A. Thomas that pointed out that no one need stop planting trees, but suggested that careful planning' as to incir location wmuu i" ; trouble with sidewalks and' sewers. ' The mirchase of two acres of land near the Great Northern I tracks lor ,ine ci,iy ws h""" was authorized, and the city at torney was directed to draw up an ordinance to this effect. The submitted price of $75 per acre was agreed .upon. . A request from the Lincoln Street, grocery owner to pave the parking strip in front of the store and to repair the curbing at his own cost was referred to the loading zone and zoning committees. Cantrall, in mov ing that the matter be referred, suggested that all such prob lems be acted upon by these committees. An ordinance creating a po lice equipment and replace ment fund was passed. The fund will be built up during the years when equipment is difficult to obtain and will be, used after the war, wnvii imii.ii of the present material must be replaced, G. Q. d'Albin, public account ant, was authorized to a ud i t city books lor the same amount paid him for last year's auditing. Preacher Spends Good Night After Shooting Rev. James dollar, pastor of the Church of the Nazarcnc at Dorris, was reported Tuesday as having spent a good night at Hillside hospital where he was admitted early Saturday after noon suffering from a gunshot wound.
