Special Election
To Cost $75,000
SALEM, March 30 (P) The
special election on June 22 will
cost $79,000, of which the coun
ties will pay $50,000 and the
state $25,000, David O'Hara,
head of the state elections di
vision, said today.
There will be two measures
on the ballot. One would enact
a 2-cent cigarette tax to raise
$2,000,000 a year for schools,
and the other would levy a
property tax of 5 mills for two
years to raise $10,000,000 for
new buildings for state institu
tions of higher learning and for
stale hospitals. ; .

David Lloyd George was burled
today. Thousands of friends and
neighbors gathered in silence on
a sloping hillside and paid final
homage to Britain's champion
of the common man.
Four grandsons, all of them
in the uniform of British mili
tary services, served as pall
bearers. The mass of floral
tributes to the man who led
Britain through the first World
war included one from Prime
Minister Churchill.
