"Grey Mask" Ekes
Out Win Over Pete
The "Grey Mask" will prob
ably use a Pershing tank the
next timo he rasslcs here. Last
night in the headline tiff with
Pete Belcastro, the hooded
hoodlum made use of tape
across the knuckles o f one
hand and a knee bandage, not
to mention the mask itself,
which alone gives him an ad
vantage over his opponent. Mr.
Stoncface eked out a win over
Pete, but not before he knew
he had been to the wars.
The masked mcneco started
out the clambake by jumping
the bell and giving Pete a few
cranium wallops from behind.
Referee Wally Moss offered to
award Belcastro the bout, but
Pete refused to accept and
waded out to take his medicine.
While tho fans screamed the
roof off at the tactics of Mr.
Stoncface. he proceeded, to take
the first fall In short order with
a stepovcr toe hold. It looked
very much as if Pete was all
done, but he pulled himself to
gether and put on a one-man
exhibition of mat mayhem that
has seldom been rivaled here.
With the crowd practically
standing on- their seats, BoU
caslro bolted the "Mask", from
one side of the ring to the other
and at one lime went down in
the aisle after the veiled villain.
After the second and third
cantos had passed without a
fall, Pete caught Mr. Stoncface
with a Sonnenbcrg butt, plus
a few well-placed forearm wal
lops, and took . the flop that
evened the count with a full
body press.
In the fifth heat, the hood
ed heel fell back on all the
stinkcroo tricks in the book
and rendered Pete groggy with
repeated head butts. Belcastro
instinctively threw a few
punches that landed and both
musclcrs were wobbling all
over the ring, when the "Mask"
saw an opening and took the
deciding fall with a body press.
Ernie Piluso made an unsuc
cessful return here in the semi
windup by dropping his match
with powerful Georges Dusette.
It was a clean, scientific match
with Ernie taking the first
tumble with a peculiar . hold
known as "Plluso's jacknife."
Dusette applied his famed full
Nolson twice in a row to take
the next two falls and the
match.

It became quite apparent today
that while the 1 war manpower
commission permitted baseball
players to leave war jobs, their
draft boards have the final say
whether they will be able to
play ball.
Eight on the heels of the lat
est "go ahead" sign given base
ball came the news that George
Stirnweiss and Oscar Grimes,
half of the regular New York
Yankees infield, were notified
by their draft boards of changes
in their military status.
Second Baseman Stirnweiss,
4-F since the spring of 1943 due
to stomach ulcers, was reclassi
fied 1-A by his Kent, Conn,,
board yesterday.' Third Base
man Grimes was summoned by
his Lakcwood, Ohio, board for a
pre-induction examination.
Grimes had been 1-A since
March 1, when he left his war
job to report to the Yankees.- -
Another big leaguer, Forrest
(Joe) Orrcll, Detroit pitcher,
passed his physical yesterday,
while Infieider Russ Peters of
