The Los Angeles Angels de feated the Seattle Rainiers, 9-7, at Anaheim, and the Hollywood aiars took Hie San Diego Padres, 7-0, at San Diego. The Portland Beavers lost to the non-league Lucky Lager club, 5-3, at San Jose, the Sacramento Solons swamped non - league Camp Bcale, 11-5, at Sacramento, and the San Francisco Seals edged out the non-league. Alameda Coast Guard, 6-5. Four eighth-inning errors per mitted three runs which spelled victory for the Angels. Lou Novikoff hit one home run, a double, and a single for the Los Angeles team. The Padres started early with a one-run lead, but were topped in the third inning when the Stars scored twice. The Stars held the lead the rest of the way, though the Padres outhit them 10 to 9. Webf dots Nose Out WSC For Conference Crown Oregon Captures Thriller, 39-37, On Timely Field Goal by Jim Barrelr By The Associated Press : The University of Oregon bas ketball squad, the northern divi sion, Pacific coast crown tucked safely away after a hair-raising playoff with Washington State, today was on its way to Kansas City for the Western Regional NCAA tournament. The Webfoot's first opponent, Friday night, will be Arkansas, Southwest conference cham pions. Oregon won the rubber game, 30-37, against the Cougars Sat urday night at Eugene when Freshman Jim Bartclt sank a field goal with 40 seconds left to go to break a 37-37 tie. The Cougars had managed to stay out in front until midway in the second half on the strength of a 21-15 halftime lead. Oregon went ahead 26-25 mid way in the last half and from then on it was a ding-dong battle to the final gun. With three minutes left, Vince Gregg put WSC ahead, 35-34, with a field goal but Bob Hamilton countered with a shot from the floor and a free throw to put the Wcbfoots in front, 37-35. George Hamilton evened it up for the Cougars just before Bartelt's game winning toss. Vince Hanson, who counted 26 points in the Cougars' Friday night win which evened the playoff scries, got 17 points Sat urday night. Wayne Zollners, crowned champions of the National Bas ketball league for the second straight year last night, will be favored but they'll have plenty of opposition as they defend their title in the World Profes sional Championship tournament opening here tonight. The Harlem Globetrotters, sen sational colored outfit the Zoll ners beat last year in the title game, will be back again this year, and the handicappers aren't discounting such teams as the New York Rens and Newark, N. J., C-O-Two's in pre-tourney prognostications. Both the Zollners and Globe trotters have been seeded through the first round in the 14 team field.
