Lt. James F. Hughes, USNR,
reported Thursday to tho Klam
ath naval air station from NAS
ot Pcnsocola, Flu., where he re
ceived aerial free gunnery train
ing. Lt. Hughes spent approxi
mately four months at that base.
Prior to that time, Lt. Hughes
was on duty at tho advanced
base on Saipan, and in the
Marshalls, spending 18 months
on duty in the Pacific
Lt. Hughes was assigned to
tho ground training department
of tho naval air slutlon here.
His homo Is In Orland, Calif.,
and prior to entering tho service
he was an instructor in science
and mathematics at Portland
high school, Portola, Calif. He
will rcsldo at bachelor officers
quarters at tho station, .
Cut In Cost of FPHA
Project Considered
In orden to cut down the cost
of the FPHA project for con
struction of SO portable prefab
ricated houses in Klamath Falls,
Edgar R. Herzog, PFHA project
planner for Oregon, staled that
his department would immedi
ately begin revising site plans
by $20,000 or $30,000. Ellmlna
lion of some of the roads, side
walks and curbing Is planned to
consolidate the project.
Only two bids wero Received
for this project, and wore tenta
tively rejected, but if costs can
bo cut sufficiently, new bids may
bo considered.

Adds $6000 to
War Loan Purchases
Purchases of war stamps and
bonds since the opening of the
school year in September, totaled
$0277.25, up to this week,' ac
cording to Garry - Bobertson,
principal of Riverside school.
Students of Riverside bought
$1452.25, In stamps alone; teach
ers purchased $900 in bonds and
students bought $1175, Jn bonds,
making a total ot $3527.25. This
does not include the - purchases
during the 6th War Loan which
brought the grand total up to
$6277.25.

OW4C to Celebrate Third
Birthday With Dinner Party
A birthday dinner will mark
the third year of activity in the
war effort for the Oregon Wom
en's. Ambulance corps the eve
ning of March 20.
- An Easter bonnet parade will
bo a .highlight of the Tuesday
evening celebration In the Klam
ath armory. Members will wear
hats they have made themselves
and prizes will be awarded for
style and ingenuity.
Fried chicken will . be ' the
piece-de-resistance of the dinner.
The. committee in charge of the
affair includes Sgt.- Dorothea
Nolan chairman, Cpl. Margaret
Mentch and Sgt. Eva Lea Long.
The ten members to receive
thrcc.ycar ..pins for consistent
service from the inception of the
corps through lo the present time
are Capt. Edith M. Webb, Cpl.

fense but has continued to work

kept up with a refresher class
each Tuesday night. Two classes
conducted by Sgt. Mona Dixon
have been graduated in the last
six months..
The 36 members have devoted
118 hours to ambulance service,
1550 miles have been covered
and 39 ambulance calls answered
by the group. Competent corps
members co-operated in attend
ing casualties in the two bus
accidents in this area, receiving
commendation . of medical au-

Evans when she was injured ip
an accident was credited for sav
ing Evans' life. - Miss Davison
