The project la now boing rapidly completed. ' : Military Housing Project To Be Completed April 1 The 80-unll military .housing project on Washburn way will bo completed, by April 1, accord ing to schedule, stated Harry R. Gamble, project. engineer, Mon day morning. Ground was broken for the construction of housing units for military personnel, November 24, 1044, but work has pro gressed a little Ix-hliid schedule because of material delays. How ever, Gamble stated, material has arrived, work lias been caught up and construction un der K. T. Henderson, contractor from Longvlew, will be complet ed by deadline. Floor sanding and linoleum laying will commence this week. Complete , furnishings for the one, two and three bedroom homes is In storage in Klamath Falls, ready to be moved in. Concrete' sidewalks ' will be laid and streets made. As soon as weather permits, seeding will commence for lawns over the en tire area. . . Thirty of the unit are being reserved for marine personnel and SO for navy, according to the latest report. Details for filling the units ore now being worked out. The building contract has been extended to build 155 more units across Iho road as soon as tile work on the present project is completed. Gamble said. .Plans will be available for contractors by the end of the ' month and bids will be opened the first week In April. Fifty units for civilian work ers are to be -awarded- a con tractor next . week, Gamble stotcd. They will be built at the foot of Main street on tho north aide of the , canal. There Is a two-room church giado school nearby and Mills is just across the canal. , . . A bridge- will be built across the canal to serve the shopping district, and Mills school, said Gamble. , . S. Attorney J. Charles Dennis said today. Mrs.: Wilkins is one of four persons indfeted' in the grand larceny, case, which involves the theft of a trunk containing money, jewelry end clothing from a house in Sitka. Mrs. Wilkins was a witness in the Gcmmill case. Gcmmill, who was acquitted, is here awaiting reappointment as federal attorney in Juneau. His counsel, Will G. USD APPRECIATES E GIFTS Survey of Rent Control Violations Slated For Coast PORTLAND, March 13 W'J A . door-to-door investigation of rent control violations in Pacific coast cities will include a survey of; Portland conditions, District OPA Rent Director Daniel D. Gage said today. - E. B. McCutchan, Portland district rent counsel, is in San Franclsoo -working out dctails. Cities to be surveyed include Se attle, Vallcjo, Los Angeles, San Dfcgo, San Francisco and Brem erton. Bureau of labor statistics show 22 per cent -of Seattle in-, vcstigatlons indicated over charges. - . - The USO wishes, to ihank the many citizens of Klqmath Falls who have so willingly and help fully donated used magazines to the- center for the past four months, to furnish reading ma terial for the hospital trains which pass through Klamath Falls, while' the exact time a hospital train will pass through the 'city is never known, the magazines which are brought in to the local USO are - taken' to the train depot at regular Inter vals to insure an adequate sup ply ot magnzlncs for each train. The magazines arc put on the trains by .the trainmen and dis tributed to the patients. This project requires thou sands of magazines, as to date, several tons of magazines have been so distributed by the UbO. The center asks'that all residents of Klamath Falls cooperate by bringing to the USO their used magazines.
