Gralapp was graduated from the University of Oregon in the summer of 1943, proceed ed to the naval reserve midship man's school of New York on the Columbia university campus where he received his rating in October, 1943. BIEHN COMMISSIONED Pari Morton Biehn. grandson of Louis Biehn, 1812 Worden, and son of Mr. and Mrs. JLester Biehn of Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of this city, has received his?, wings at Aloe " army air field, Victoria, Tex , and is now com missioned a sec ond lieutenant tn the U. S. rmv air force. Biehn aerved in the South Pa- eific in the early days of the war as a radio operator on a bomber. His rank was master sergeant at the time he entered training to qualify as a pilot of . . . SGT. POOL ON FURLOUGH Sgt. and Mrs. Benjamin G. Pool are spending his furlough visiting friends and relatives in and around Klamath Falls. Pool is recuperating from malaria and jaundice after havings spent three years in the South Pacific theater. Pool is -with the 5th air force and arrived back in the United States in January, ' 1945. He was hospital-1 ized .at- a -military hospital in S a , - Pranpicpfi until ' February m 11. They are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charles Booth of Bonanza until March 10 BROTHERS MEET Mr. and Mrs. Nels Sundberg, asou Delaware, Klamath tails, were -advised this week of the meeting recently of two of their sons, sgt. Lauren Sundbere, army air corps machinist, and .pvt. Uordon sundberg. U. S army infantry, in the Hawaiian islands. The brothers, who have been separated for 2s years, were uninformed as to the other s location. Set. Sundberg has seen re peated action in the South Pa cific ana had only recently been returned to the islands when his younger brother walked into the shop where he was emDloved not knowing that Lauren was tnere. Pvt. Sundberg was at that time en route to overseas service after having completed his train ing at Camp Roberts. SCOTT RETURNS Cpl. John P. Scott, holder of the Purple Heart, son of Mrs. Helen Scott, a former resident of Bonanza, was wounded in action in Germany and spent several months in a base hos pital in England, being returned to the U. S. base hospital in Camp Carson, Colo., in January. He expects to be sent home on furlough in another month, when able to travel. His English bride is coming to Klamath Falls to live as soon as arrangements can be made. Cpl. John Scott and Sgt. Edwin Scott are twin brothers. : sr -- ,r-v ? Duncans In Army Kenneth Harold Duncan (left) and his twin brother, Charles Gerald Duncan, sons of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Duncan -ot Malm, are serving in the U. S. army air fores and at present are attend ing radio school in Sioux Falls, S. D. The brothers, who were born and reared in Malin, are graduates of the Malin high school, class of 1944. Thev entered the service in September of that year, trained at Sheppard Field, Tax., where they attended radio school, and from there were sent to Sioux Falls. Following their radio course they will continue on to gunnery school and hope that their assignments will keep them together. BARKER ON B-17 'AN EIGHTH AIR - FORCE BOMBER STATION, England SSgt. Lawrence E. Barker, 28, of Klamath Falls, Ore., tail gun ner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, has been awarded the third Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal at this Eighth Air Force base in England. The. presentation was made by his Broun commander, Lt. Col. William J. Wriggles- worthj of Eau Claire, Wis. Sgt. Barker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Alvard of 12 Spring Garden Ave., Eureka Springs, Ark. Prior to entering the Army Air Forces in August, 1941, Sgt. Barker was engaged as a farmer. He received his gunner's wings in L,areao, rex. COOK RETURNS Ma. Wayne C. Cook. U. S, army artillery, of Klamath Falls, has recently returned from the Burma theatre where he was at tached to General Joseph Stil well's China-Burma-India forces, Maj. Cook fought with the 38th division of Chinese artillery on the Burma road and was in Klamath Falls on a 21-day fur- lougn visiting nis mother, Mrs J. A. Cook, 933 Eldorado. He left here Monday noon for Santa Barbara, Calif., for recuperation purposes ana reassignment. Hayter Released On $3500 Bond Here John Hayter, Shevlin timber faller who has been held in the Klamath county jail on a grand jury indictment of assault, armed with a dangerous weapon, was released from custody early Monday evening when he post ed $3500 bond. Hayter's family awaited his release and returned with him to Shevlin. It is understood that Claude Powell, whom Hayter TLAMATH BASIN Carload Potato Shipments (Figures from State-Foderal Inspector Ross Aubrey) LUMBER WORKERS PORTLAND, Feb. 27 (IP) The first west coast lumber commis sion order giving northwest lumber workers their long-de manded two weeks vacation was issued here today. In a case brought by the CIO International Woodworkers of America, Willamette Valley Lumber Operators association and Oregon coast operators were directed to grant a two- week vacation to employes of five years' standing. Other em ployes will continue to receive a one-week vacation. Vacation, pay varies accord ing to the number of hours worked during the year, with five days' wages on each vaca tion week for men averaging a 22-hour week or more. Willamette Valley Lumber Operators association includes 45 companies with 4500 em ployes. Oregon coast operators comprises 10 companies with 1000 employes. is alleged to have wounded with a shotgun at the little logging town of Shevlin in northern Klamath county, on February 2, is gradually improving.
