Still Full Despite
Shipyard Layoffs

Despite shipyard layoffs, public
housing is still filled and close
to 2000 families are waiting for'
homes, Harry D. Freeman, execu
tive director ol tne Portland
housing authority, said today.
He stated the turnover of ten
ants is at its lowest level in two
years. He listed 18,449 occupied
dwelling units with approxi
mately 7,0,000 residents.
"Public housing community
tenants show Increasing willing
ness to remain on the job and to
stay in the communities to which
they are assigned," Freeman
said. He added that the communi
ties have "matured" and are
more home-like.
