Jenkins of Florida to assist Washington legislators to put through an "anti-closed shop" law, such as Florida recently adopted, drew a fiery eight-page reply from legislators here this week. Jenkins' offer was contained in a mimeographed letter to all legislators here. The reply, signed by 36 Wash ington representatives and sen ators, headed by Rep. Max Wed ekind (D-King), advised the Florida legislators in effect to "look for the mote in his own eye." Brother-ln-Law of Governor Snell Dies PORTLAND, Feb. 15 (IP) Merrill D. Rose, 44, secretary manager of a morticians firm here and state game commission er, died last night after tumbling from a horse at Oswego Lake Hunt club. Hospital attendants said death was caused by a heart attack, not the fall. Rose, brother-in-law of Governor Sncll, was born at Corning, Iowa, and had lived here since 1016. His home was at Oswego. Survivors Include the widow. Beatrice, sister of Governor Snell: two children, Sally Anne and Merrill D. PURSE FROM HI HERE Mrs. Kathcrine Hanks, Evans apartments, reported to city po lice Thursday that two boys snatched her purse, containing about $80 in currency and near ly $1000 in war bonds, as she was entering the Evans build ing Thursday night. One boy fled after taking the purse, with Mrs. Hanks in pursuit, and the other boy ran in another direc tion. Mrs. Hanks was unable to catch the thief and a city-wide search for the boys has brought no result as yet. Very little de scription of the culprits was ob tained, other than that both boys were bare-headed and one seemed to be about 14 years old and the other was younger and smaller, The purse is blue In color and the currency was in denom inations of ones, fives and two twenties. The bonds were thought to include 16 $25 bonds, two $100 bonds and the balance in $50 bonds. The serial num bers will be secured soon. Any person finding any of this prop erty should notify the police department at once. Arguments Heard In Fight Over Judgeship SALEM, Feb. 16 (IP) The state sunreme court heard ar guments yesterday in the suit of Uircuit Judge iranklin c. Howell, Portland, who is trying to void the election of District Attorney James R. Bain to the judgeship now held by Howell, Howell, who was defeated by Bain last November, contends the election was illegal because Bain was nominated by assem bly. Howell contends that the judiciary laws do not provide for such nominations. The Multnomah county cir cuit court ruled in favor of Bain.
