Lewis Kandra suffered a
broken ankle late Monday while
working with a power ditener.
Kandra's ankle was crushed. He
is recovering at the family home
near Merrill.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Dcnson,
called to Jefferson, Oreson, by
the recent death of a brother-in-law,
have returned home. Den
son is proprietor of the Union
service station.
Shipf liter's Mate 1c Dennis
Blatch of the Seabces, stationed
at Port Hucncm, located near
Fort Oxnard, Calif., arrived last
Sunday to spend a week with
his parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. R.
Blatch. Young Blatch enlisted
in the U. S. army in 1938, serv
ing under army supervision fol
lowing an honorable discharge
in the Panama Canal zone on a
defense project. He enlisted in
the Seabces a year ago.
J. R. Blatch is owner of a
local service station. A second
son is also serving in the armed
forces.

lures drove to Klamath Falls last
week where the two latter left
for Portland, where they were
Inducted into the WACs. From
Portland they left for WAC
(mining center at Dcs Moines,
Iowa, after which they hope
for foreign assignments. Mrs.
Snares will be remembered as
clerking in the lied and White
store at Canby about a year and
a half ago. Since then she has
been living In Alturas. Her hus
band has been a war prisoner in
the Philippines for some time.

Alone. Idaho arrived on the Itith
to visit her sister, Mrs. Betty
Norum. Both left on Saturday
of last week for Napa, Calif.,
to visit their mother, who has
been in poor health.
Verna Lee Griffin, who taught
the intermediate grades in Can
by last year, and who is at pres
ent teaching In Tionesta, passed
through here Tuesday last week,
en route to her home in Berk
eley for a short visit.

without further damage or any
injury to anyone.

left for Oregon on Wednesday of
this week to be with Davidson's
father who is very ill.
Mrs. Elmer Quigley, who Is
teaching at Lookout, was home
to spend the Thanksgiving holi
days. Mrs. Fred Bonner Is visiting at

this week. Her husband has
been called for his physical ex
amination before Induction into

fine, the Stewards report. Pearl
brought home 300 pounds of
field peas which he Is going to
try on his form. Tho country
around Union farms this crop

gives Its producers a nice profit
for they disposed of most of
their peas In that locality for
5'4 cents per pound.
