Eugene Garrett, lb, son of Mr.

lake. Young Garrett, serving
nith the U. S. navy, lost his
life in the Port Chicago disas-
r of last July.
First reports were that his
body had been found and ar
rangements for his funeral were
made here. Later the report was
reversed and a memorial serv
ice was he'd.
Recently Mr. and Mrs. Gar
rett made a trip south to naval
hMri.-i!.rtrs at Valleio and up
on investigation found and in England. The dispatch was
identified the body of their official, but no particulars were
youngest son, which had lain i included. Young Tofell has been
since earlv last August, un- in the service for two and one
claimed in a Vallejo funeral 'half years.

major battles in France. He has
been serving in the communica
tions department of the US
army in the European theater
of war for the past year, and
is now a patient in a hospital

PFC Vernon Wlmcr. U. S.
marine corps, left this week to
return to San Diego, Calif.,
after enjoying a visit with rela
tives here whllo on leave from
the San Diego naval hospital,
to which ho has been confined
for a year. The young marine
was injured during the invasion
of Tarawa, when his leg was
shattered and he was injured in
the hand also. Although he still
has a cast on his Injured leg,
and Is forced to use crutches,
PFC Wlmcr expressed his pleas
ure at being able to bo around
again. He holds, the Purple
Heart medal, and was recently
awarded tho Presidential Cita
tion for heroism at Tarawa,
while he was still at the San
Diego naval hospital.

the Klamath Valley hospital, is
convalescing, and is expected to
return to her homo soon.
