' Salvation Before or After Baptism? In every case .of conversion In the New Testament after , the church was Instituted men and women were commanded to be baptised. This baptism preceded salva tion in every case. However, In this modern age, it is quite common io hear teachers and ministers say "Baptism is not ' essential to one's salvation." All you need do to be for-, given of your past sins, they say, is to, "Trust the Lord at your personal Savior." Jesus said in Mk. 16:18, "H that belleveth and It bap tised thai! be taved." Notice. the order, in which Jesut pull it 'belleveth,' 'baptised,' 'saved.' ' Peter taid, "Which after a true llknai doth new save you, even baptism, not the putting away of th filth of the flesh, but the Interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesut Christ." (I Pet. 3:21). We do net walk with th Lord in newness of life until we are baptised. Rom. 8:4 says, "We were burled therefore with him through baptism into death: that Ilk at Chrltt was raited from th dead through the glory of the Father, to we alto might walk in newness of lift." . . : We 'become new creatures in Chrltt when we are bap tised Into Chrltt. Gal, 3:7 styi, "For at many of you at were baptised into Chrltt have put on Christ." Then II Cor. 5:17 tayt. "If any man be in Chrltt, he it a nw creature." If men can be laved without baptism, why be baptised? Some tay we' can be taved without baptism, but must be baptised to become member of tho church. If ihlt It true It It eatler to be tared than it it to become a member of the church. If one can be taved without baptism why become a member of the church? Such would be unneces sary. The truth of the matter it that when we are baptised .. for the remission of tint we receive forgiveness, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and are made member! of Chritt't Body the church. As the youne Dreachar haaan his sermon that Sunriau mnm. Ing October 29th, it was he told the people of the birth of Ralph, their first-born, the day ueiure. ne saia tnai wnne th little fellow was but a day old, he knew that the boy would break out into sin and that he must be born asain. I hava a nature that turns to sin and to nas nis moiner ana so it will be with the Babe. Then the man's voice took on deep c6n ccrn Would that I might know that my son would be born again. Ye must be born again, was his text. He told of one of their members who had been born, twice and had a double hlrth. day. Her second birthday was oi uoa irom above and on the same day and month as her hu man birth. We add that being born twice, she is to die but once. She will not see the Sec ond Death Whosoever was not found written in the Lamb's Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the Second Death BIBLE. BIRTH CERTIFICATE You can- get a birth certificate and prove your birth into this world and your friends can say wheth er you have been born of God, from above. To the Twice-Born old things have passed away, All has become new. After the sermon came an al tar call with three high school students and a boy from the grades coming to the front. It was a United Presbyterian church and the. preacher asked Did they believe the -Bible to be the word of, God? And did they accept the' shed blood of Christ as washing away their sins? BORN AGAIN How explain the mystery of the New Birth? How become children of God and his heirs? It is when God. breathes his life into your soul. Then old things pass away and all things become new. Your part is to turn to God and count your sins blotted out by the blood of Christ Christ died lor our sins. From that on you are to step ahead and live to the glory of God. Suffer for Chrlst'i name, you. must and In it all; you look to Him for the power to carry on. I will never leave thee or forsake thee, says He. S.' W. McChesney Road, Port. land-l-Ore.
