Stating he regarded the promi nence being given the "battle ' in connection with the election campaigns as "a lot of hooey, Beck added: "I don't say there wasn't one. Sitting in darkened room, with large pictures of President Roosevelt and Willis E. Mahon ev, senatorial candidate, spot lighted before them, they lis tened to the radio addresses of the two democratic leaders, broadcast over KFJI. The president's speech, which came over the National hook-up, contained a plea to all Ameri cans to "get out and vote." Shoemaker, a native of Helena, Mont., and a veteran of sub marine, air and surface branches of the navy, has assumed com mand of this air station, it was announced yesterday. The shift sends Lt. Comdr. B. M. Turner, commandant since August 23 of this year and for merly at the Klamath Falls, Ore., station, to the Sand Point naval air station near Seattle. . Wednesday, Octo ber 4. Mrs. W. L. Terwilliger led some singing and taught an appropriate grace that tho girls might sing before meals. Mrs. L. A. Murphy announced that the theme "Service to Hos pitals" is to be carried out by the Girl Scouts in Klamath county this year. She made sug gestions as to ways the girls might best serve the hospitals. The hospitals that the girls will include in the project arc Marine Barracks, naval air base, Tule luke army hospital, Klamath county infirmary, isolation hos pital, Klamath Valley and Hill side. Sp. (S) 3c Jane Eckel was present and told the leaders how best to serve the service men in the various hospitals. After the luncheon, Mrs. D. W. Holloway led the group in criti cism of all the activities involved in the preparation. Those present were Mrs. II. R. Burritt. Mrs. L. A. Murpliy, Mrs. W. C. Preston. Mrs. A. E. Wood ruff, Mrs. B.
