Swan Island Yard To Build Tanker PORTLAND, Sept. 8 (P) The S.S. W. L, R. Emmctt, a tanker to bo named after the "father" of steam-electric prop u 1 s I o n for ships, will bo built in the Swan Island shipyard, the Kaiser' Cor poration said today. This will be the first tanker named after a man. Others have bocn named for places and battles. The Southern Oregon Life Underwriters association met in regular session at a luncheon on Wednesday, September 6, at the Pelican cafe. Fifteen members were In at tendance, with President Martin Swanson officiating. Paul Lee of the Sun Life of Canada, in charge of the program, present ed Mitchell Tillotson, of the First National Bank of Port land, as speaker of the day. Tillotson spoke on "Estate An alysis" and the duties of the life underwriter. Guests for the luncheon were Tillotson, and two new men in the insurance field, Mr. Bates of the Businessmen's Insurance company and Mr. Froemler of the Northern Life Insurance company. NAMED TO COMMISSION SALEM, Sept. 8 (P) Guy Shumway, McMinnvllle farmer, was appointed by Governor Sncll today to the Yamhill county public welfare commis sion, succeeding Glen S.
