Wallace mimed Supreme Court Justice Wllliiim O. Douglas today as the vice president's chief rival for second place on tho 1044 demo cratic ticket. They also arc keeping an eye on Senate.. Mujorlty Lender Bark Icy, Speaker Sum Rayburn, Sen ator Truman (D-Mo.) and War Mobilization Director James F. Byrnes. Oigiini.cd campaigns arc not yet in evidence- for any of them, Nona Is likely pending an ex pected word from President Roosevelt thut ho wouldn't mind having Wallace for a running mute again but that somebody else might do. Tho Wallace camp has an Idea 1 1 in t a definite, if not open, drive is In progress for Douglas and that efforts will be made to re cruit strength from followers of Barkloy, Trumnn and others.. It has heard rumors that back of Douglas arc Secretary of the Interior lekes, Joseph P. Ken nedy, former ambassador to Eng land, and Thomas Corcoran, former Roosevelt "brain truster." Private checks show, however, that tho vice president probably will receive his heaviest support for rcnomlnatlon In the west and northwest, where Douglas, a WiMhlngtonlon, would be expect ed to have his greatest strength. Senator Chavez (D-N.M.) an nounced yesterday ho favors Wul- luccs rcnomlnatlon. declaring: "If tho president is entitled to rcnomlnatlon, then common, ordinary American decency and lair ploy should demand tnai Vice President Wallace be re nominated. This would be only his second term. Former Musical Comedy Star Dies NEW YORK, July 13 (Pi Mrs. Betty Compton Knappcn, 37, wife of Theodore T.
